550e Auto Lock/Unlock and misc ramblings

Picked my new 550e the week before Thanksgiving. Had it about a month, but been away for the last couple of weeks, so only about 500 miles.

Driving experience has been outstanding. In 40 degree temps, consistent 35+- mile electric range. 90% of my driving has been electric. Very smooth and quiet. Trying to get a few more ICE miles before I hit sport mode. I was fortunate to be able to get 2VV and 4 zone added. 4ws seems to make the large car very nimble, especially when parking.

Now, a few items relating to setup. Auto door lock/unlock - I have been using my phone/watch as the main key. Works great. However, when I'm home, it is a bit problematic. Our master bath backs up to the garage, so every time I go in the there, car unlocks, then locks. Same problem with our laundry room. So, I turned off the beeps and the auto lock and now have to manually lock the car when I am out and around. Don't really like that.

Does anyone else have this issue, what have you done? Is it ok to have car lock/unlock a bunch of times in the garage? BMW Genius says location-based locking is only available in the 7. I realize that at some point it will go to sleep.

Also, still unhappy that I have to carry my keyfob if I want to enable pathway lighting when approaching the car. No way to light it up from a distance.

I mentioned these items in other posts, but curious if anything else has come up.

I know, first world problems. I really do enjoy driving the car. I need an excuse for a road trip.

Thanks all.
Happy Holidays.

Andrew

Yeah, I think you know all the tricks here. I try to avoid having my phone too close to the car when I’m in the house for that reason and largely have avoided this being an issue. I didn’t activate the key on my watch as I figured it would get even worse than with my phone.

I also purposely did not setup my watch for the same reason.

Wait a minute - you may be on to something - can I de-activate the key on my watch, but leave the app on the watch, but just have phone activate the locks....

Hi, the locking and unlocking when you are around the car with your phone can be disabled so that it works by NFC only, i.e., when you hold phone to the door. On android it is a setting in the wallet, you get to this by long pressing the car connection notification on your phone.

You can turn off passive entry if you don’t like the locking and unlocking in the garage, but eventually after a few cycles it goes to sleep and stops listening.

If I let it cycle lock/unlock until it sleeps, is there any significant wear and tear to the locks and mirror motors?

Then again, the car is on a 3 year lease.
