Nothing like horsepower. You can always ask. If you found a demo or similar it might help alleviate funding a big difference in a short time.

I’m not sure what kind of % off people are getting for the 550e but I think I’d go for that one if I could get a discount off MSRP that was comparable to what I got for my ordered 540. Assuming I had to do it all over again. More so for the “around town” battery ability than performance. If I based it on performance alone I don’t think I could justify paying the additional cost for a 0.4 second improvement in a 0-60mph sprint. Last edited by ToddRGuy; 12-03-2024 at 03:12 PM.. |

I know better these cars do not hold their f****** value at all it's terrible especially on a trade I'd have to get the deal of a century to get what I really wanted for the car I've only had it for over a year

Don’t do it. Just suck it up for 2 years. Take it from somebody who has rolled negative equity in the past. It’s just a car…..we all get the fever and I understand, but it’s really not worth losing $10-20k over.

On top of it all, getting your hands on say, a 550e, might prove to be very difficult - it is in my market. So the ability to discount is lessened.
Can't hurt to ask. An electric version may yield some interesting results if that is in your wheelhouse.

Also true. I can’t even find a 540i on the lot in Nashville right now.

You would have to talk to a cross-border broker, but your US$ will buy a very fully optioned 550e for US $75K - about CDN $105K before discounts (although these discounts appear to be thinner in Canada). You have local sales taxes to consider too, which are lowest in Alberta. I'm sure there are duties/tariffs involved.

Luxury car depreciation curve for new BMW and Porsche is generally steep at first, then becomes less steep after a few years. So if you bought outright, you get more utility for your money if you keep the car longer instead of jumping right away, because you will experience depreciation on the next car as soon as you buy it. So you are paying comparatively more for the same number of years of driving by switching right away than if you wait longer for the depreciation to level off some. Sure the car is worth less after each year of ownership, but the cost per year is less after 3 or 4 years than after 1 or 2.
