Delivery question - at the port

Hi, I am tracking my car which currently says "at the port". It will be going from Dingolfing Germany to Bayonne, NJ. The genius line said it will be 4-6 weeks before a ship picks it up, meantime while the dealership told me I can pick it up in about 2 weeks. The genius line said it may not be here until January. I don't know the build week because I just secured the car after it was in production. It was finished on 11/22. Does anyone have any insight? How does the dealership not know timelines?

I have no special insight, but my money is on the Genius Line over the Dealership.

Unless there is a huge backup at Bremerhaven, it almost never takes 4-6 weeks to get on a boat to New Jersey ("Port of New York"). The longest I've ever waited was 2-3 weeks. There is at least one boat every week from Germany to NY. It takes 10-14 days on the ship, and then another week at the VDC. So I would say neither your dealer nor the Genius are right. I'd say call again next week after the holiday.

The dealership is being wildly optimistic while the Genius line is being very cautious. But, both are just guessing. Once it flips to "in transit" you can call the Genius line for the ship name and can track it online through various ship tracking websites (e.g., Marine Traffic).

Thanks! That’s what I figured. Looks like there is a ship leaving on 12/5, hoping it’s on that one. I’ll call again next week.

I also got this indication after checking Track my BMW. Initially it read "in-transit", but now it reads "at the port" BEFORE, the "in-transit" marker. So I assume the vehicle is still in Europe somewhere. It has taken a very long time. I ordered the car in March.

Hi Peter, I've been told that this is normal, and it might be a good indicator that the car is actually at the port of arrival.

From what I've read it transitions from "At the Port" to "In Transit" to "At the Port" again. You might want to give BMW Genius a call and inquire.

I have sent an email and got a response they are looking into it. Let's see. I have extended my lease for the third time, and don't wish to do it again.

If it’s in transit for a while and then flips back to at the port, it’s arrived at the destination port. This can easily be confirmed with a call to the Genius line.

Best of luck! I hope it's at your dealership soon.

Unfortunately, spoke, to Canadian Genius today and they don't seem to have the same access to inventory movements the US does. I will see if I can find out using another channel.
