Dye the Merino leather?

Has anyone looked into dyeing the Atlas Gray to Black for a more cohesive look inside the car? I was in a friend's new 540ix yesterday, and this is the first time I saw the gray/black interior in real life. Personal taste, but I really don't care for it. Last time I had a "two tone" interior on a BMW was an E39 540i. That is when they were copying Lexus.

Most interesting fact is that the new M5 offers Merino in all black if you wish. That may spread to the "ordinary" line in the future, but it is too late for me as my car is on the ship. Apparently changing the color of leather is not that unusual, but....the car will be leased, which will be a consideration. I'd have to get permission from BMW.

I don't recall seeing any posts where anyone has attempted this. Whew, what an undertaking though.

All I’m seeing is a mental image of Rudy Giuliani sweating.

Good luck, sounds heroic.

I think you are asking for a whole lot of trouble with this for a leased car. Is there any way to maybe go through BMW Individual and ask? Because from what I understand, any changes you make have to be able to be reversed on lease turn-in unless you buy out the lease.

You folks all woke me up, made me realize how foolish this would be. Thank you.

Just having so many second (and third) thoughts about moving from current G30 M550ix to the 550e. Tons of compromises from design, quality, no "M" tuning, and now high cost to get charging capability in my garage. Definitely thinking of pulling the plug here (no pun intended), but need to see/test drive the car in person. In about a month when it arrives.

Report back after you do the test drive! I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts. It seems many of the G30 owners fully acknowledge the decrease in interior swag, but like the ride/handling.
