Burger Fi’s prices got out of hand.

Culver’s is the only fast food we eat, a few times a yr. Great burger.

Use to see a lot of TV commercials for them and they have a pretty big menu. If they were closer I might frequent them and see if they're good or not.

They have hot dogs on their menu. I like hot dogs and not many (if any) places by me sell them these days.
Been to Sonic a few times over the years. All three of us got food poisoning at one time or another in two different states. Will never go back.

Hmm... never heard that before. Guess I'm better off not going there.

Heard of food poisoning from Chipotle and more recently from the raw onions at McDonald's. Now Sonic. Best to keep our eyes and ears open.

Burger Fi filed for Chapter 11. Not sure what happened to them but I know they acquired Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza a few years ago. Guessing they probably took on too much debt, growth didn't materialize as they projected and the bill came due. We'll see if they survive. If they do they will likely have to scale down and close bad locations. A lot of players in the space including Five Guys and Shake Shack and those stores are not cheap to build out.
Don't get me started on Anthonys. That use to be my favorite pizza hands down and it has been going downhill since they sold it. We don’t even go there anymore. They changed the cheese or the sauce or both but they totally killed what made the pizza so good. Then they started adding a bunch of other shit to the menu.

I haven’t been to one in a long time but screwing that up could have brought down the entire BurgerFi company. Not smart to mess with the ingredients that made the pizza popular right after buying the company.

We had one at the mall, and the university, and neither did any decent business (the one in the mall closed due to being unclean).

A few years later they open a free-standing store and it has been balls to the wall ever since. I mean, if they weren't who they are I'd suspect they sold their souls to the devil, it's that big of a contrast.

I like their food (when I don't get a weird bite), but I don't like it that much.

The one I go to -- on Walton Blvd in Bentonville AR -- is pretty good. I've had crispy chicken sandwiches (regular & spicy), pork tenderloin and fish sandwiches, and hamburgers.

I don't order shakes/malts or soft drinks. Nor have I ordered any desserts. I order just a sandwich and once in a while fries and at least once I've tried the onion rings which were pretty good.

An In n Out opened in Livermore CA -- where I lived -- and I tried the food. At first the place was jammed. 'course I picked a time when the place wasn't too busy. The food, hamburger, was ok. But not sufficiently good enough to keep me coming back. I have never tried any other location.

Near where I worked in Hayward CA a Five Guys opened. Tried the food when it first opened. Hamburger, fries. Was pretty good. I didn't eat there very often but after some time the quality had dropped. I stopped eating there.

There's a Five Guys on the corner of SW 14th Street and S Walton Blvd and I pass by there lots but I've never visited the place.

Did try the Whataburger place across the street from Five Guys. Ho hum.

Back to the OP:

Some years ago, a Krispy Kreme opened in my area. They hired off-duty police to manage the long lines of crowds in their cars lining up to buy the doughnuts.

A few months later, the fad was over.

A few months after that, the store closed.

Easy come, easy go.

As for Chick-Fil-A, the politics of the owners offend me, but it’s a moot point: there isn’t one anywhere near me. And the fact that none of them are open on Sunday makes it even less likely that I’ll go to one anytime soon.

It’s kind of interesting you mention that. As you might imagine many of their beliefs run contrary to many in Chicago and a lot of Chicagoans pretty much screamed bloody murder when it was announced the first Chick Fil A was opening in the city. Of course, part of that was because Chicagoans always chafe at national chains. I never have quite understood this, because the franchisees are local owners. Anyway, the first Chick-Fil-A opened at the corner of Chicago and Wabash, equidistant between State Street and Michigan Avenue and the lines were down the street and it has never slowed down. Chick-Fil-A the company and the franchisees made it clear they do not discriminate in any way and I can assure you I’ve experienced numerous employees who don’t fit the “traditional” mold. There are now locations downtown at State and Lake, a location just north of the Wrigley Building on the Magnificent Mile, and just the other day I saw a new one on South Michigan Avenue across the street from the Art Institute. In addition there are other locations in neighborhoods all over the city. There’s a location right down the street from Wrigley Field. Anyway, it really reminds me that actions speak louder than words. In spite of all the initial protests Chicago has embraced Chick-Fil-A. I think the two primary reasons are #1) their employees treat their customers with kindness and respect and #2) the food is good and reasonably priced.

Full disclosure: I’m from the south and I love Chick-Fil-A and I was thrilled when they came to Chicago!! I have been eating there for 52 years now!! In the winter I love to get their chocolate chip and peppermint milkshake and every summer I can’t wait until they start serving their peach milkshake!! My standard order is a Chick-Fil-A sandwich on a Multigrain bun with extra pickles. And that’s all I have to say about that!

When I go, I always walk in. I DETEST drive-thrus. Never more than 3 or 4 people in front of me. I enjoy the spicy strips, and the chocolate shake is pretty good.

Good man. I avoid them where possible. Like you say, it's usually faster to just walk inside. I especially hate pharmacy drive-thrus because someone will always have an insurance issue that needs to be addressed, so everyone else in line waits and waits.

I've always enjoyed chick fil a whenever I've had it. We used to eat there more frequently but haven't in over a year as there have been an influx of new chicken sandwich restaurants in the recent years that I find to be a bit better tasting.

I used to consult for the fast food industry and I recall measuring guest count analytics between major chains. At one point chick fi a was rivaling McDonald's despite being closed 1 day of the week. It was madness.

Drive-thrus are banned in our city.

As for fast food, I gave it up years ago to help keep my lab numbers in the
normal zone, plus keep the weight off. Now I can button the top button on
my Levis again. 😁

Funny how those "lab numbers" become so important when you get a bit older. I recent had a lipid panel done and I wanted to see my LDL below 55. My cardio doc set that as my goal. I was really careful about what I ate the day or two before my test and I fasted for more than 12 hours prior. Got my LDL to 54. I was psyched. A couple of years ago I was happy enough to see my LDL in the 70's, which is where it's recommended for most folks.

My LDL is pretty under control (66), it's my HDL that's an issue. The best number I've seen is 40 last February; it's normally upper 30's.

Funny that you mention this, and I almost hate to say this on a public forum for fear of revealing the “secret.” My daughter’s both love Chik-fil-A. For the past couple years, I’ve always ordered on the app and chose the “mobile-thru” option. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME I go there, the regular drive-thru line is out of the parking lot and into the adjacent grocery store lot. I always drive right by, scan my QR code, and have my food in 5-7 minutes. And every time, I think to myself: “Why on Earth wouldn’t you order on the app and go through the shorter line?”
