540D engine and fuel

So i took a look that the g60 has two engine set ups, 210kw and 223kw. (Makes no sense to me)

Both of them take over 10l-100km inside city

My g30 540d lci takes 7.1 in city!

How the hell is the fuel consumption worse on the new generation?! Isn’t it supposed to be more efficient?

I’m on an i5 now….disclaiimer….but that doesn’t track. That works out to 23.5 mpg US gallons which is WAAAAAYYY lower than US 540 drivers are claiming. I call BS here…..
