Cost to repair deep scratch in grill?

I parked too close to the garage door and got scratched by the metal hinge. Any idea how much it would cost to fix this? Curious does it require a replacement? I’m the the Bay Area.

I checked it didn’t appear to affect any functionality.

Ugh, I'm sorry. What I would be most concerned about is if the garage door strike moved the alignment of that front facing camera. It appears as if it took a chip out of the housing that surrounds that.

I don't think that is going to be able to be repaired. From the photo it looks like it abraded the lens housing and some of the lens itself. 1/4" more to the right and I think the front camera itself would have been a lost cause.

They might be able to do something about that deep gash but the circular area that houses the camera is likely not something a body shop would be able to work with. If you want this to appear "like it never happened" I think your only option is going to be to replace the grill assembly. This would be part "1" in the diagram below, which is representative of the ICE G60 version, but I believe the design construct being "a single unit piece" would apply to the i5 as well.

Thanks ToddRGuy ! I think your analysis is spot on.

For those who are curious, I went to my dealership for an estimate. They ask for $2000 for the grill and $1000 for the camera section.

Given it’s working perfectly, I’ll just leave it alone for now.

You really can't tell unless you are right up on it.

From videos that I’ve seen, the grill replacement isnt that difficult as a DIY. People have videos up for other BMWs where they swapped the chrome grill for the black one. As I was looking for the diagram for your post, I saw several G60 grills in the $650-750 price range. That dealer price is absurd. You might want to consider buying the part and taking it on as a DIY, or buying it yourself and asking a body shop repair place to swap it for you. It’s only held in by clips.

I’ve such a hard time finding any info for how to work on the grill, any video/reference you can share ToddRGuy ?

There was someone on the forum that did a swap, and I can’t recall who it was. I tried searching via the mobile app but it won’t pull results. I’ve seen several YouTube videos for other models, though.
