Early install of new OS

As part of the investigation into my couple of blackout incidences I experienced with my iDrive system, the dealer requested authorization to upgrade my OS, and I’m now finding myself running 07/2024.40

On the downside, this means that I’ve missed the ability to remove 5AP with EFlow until the next OTA occurs….sigh. But I do see a few new things.

First up is a new mode “Silent Mode” - which I assume is the quickest way to turn off iconic sounds, but will check it out.

There’s also a Vitalize option on my Home Screen. I don’t recall seeing that before, but maybe I missed it?

Lastly, my myBMW app now permits me to manually precondition the battery - presumably for unplanned DC fast charging or perhaps if it’s very cold?

Interesting. So what’s configurable in those two new modes, silent and vitalize?

I forget, does this idrive have a custom/individual mode, or do you just configure each of the stock modes to preference (such as sport mode)?

Very cool, thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to learning more about what the new features do/offer.

Also, be sure to let us know if you initial issue gets resolved after you've had a chance to use it for a while.

I'd be more interested in not having to reset it every other day.

So Vitalize isn’t a mode, it’s an app of some sort, haven’t tried it out yet.

When you engage Silent mode the iconic sounds are turned off, the interactive bar goes blank and the dash simplifies, it engages a do not disturb feature that is configurable as well as allowing to set the lounge roof cover and rear shade setting. A bit bare bones for my taste.

Interestingly, all modes can now be toggled as default mode except for Sport and Efficient mode - who knows why? It seems that the ability to automatically open/close the sun shades has been added to more modes as well - in general there’s been a bit of tinkering here I’d say.

Anything sport can never be a default as a liability mitigator. The car always has to start in the most safe mode and the driver has to deliberately select sport or otherwise confirm disabling of safety net systems. I don’t like it but I understand why it has to be this way.

The world we live in, eh? Over 500hp on tap in any mode but the minute you select sport “hang on there a moment, we’ll need to have you e-sign this waiver before we let you engage”. (See below)

I tried the Vitalize app out - I literally LOL’d. I guess it’s meant to wake you up, put you in an activated mood or something - basically it opened my sky shade, pulsed air blasts at me and played some upbeat electronica at me for 2 minutes. Love those crazy Bavarians.

One of the things that I saw when playing around in the interior of the M5 at the VDC event here in NJ is main home screen has a more widget based approach. The widgets were in the diagonal //M style look, but you could add and move around widgets. I was curious and checked the version, and seem to recall an 07/2024.x version installed.

While I don't expect to get the M design style look, but it certainly would be nice to get movable widgets on the home screen like iDrive 7 had.
