Creaking / Popping sound..?
Hey! I’ve had my G60 since may it’s a 2024 530XI and the last few weeks I’ve noticed this sound like a creaking, popping noise coming from the front driver side. I mainly notice when I’m slowing down below 25 MPH / 40 KPH. But especially notice when I’m going between 8 MPH / 12 KPH - 18 MPH / 29 KPH. The service advisor and shop foremen drove with me they both heard it the shop foremen claims it’s just a normal sound you hear. The loan car they gave me didn’t make that sound it was also a 24 530XI. I’m just confused as to why they’re saying it’s normal when clearly it’s not something that’s being heard in other models. Especially so early into the vehicles life. Wondering if any of you have heard something similar or been told something similar with your car.

I had a 'noise' on a previous Acura, that they basically refused to deal with because it was 'just a normal sound'. After a couple of service visits, and them being dismissive, I invoked Acura Client Relations. That did the trick. Funny, that 'normal sound' ended up being some sort of axle nut on the Acura that wasn't positioned correctly. |

Popping noises are often suspension related, can come from a few places, and isn’t normal from a car that doesn’t have enough mileage to wear anything out.

They claim it’s “so rare” that it would be suspension related. I even mentioned to them it sounded like a strut issue. They truly just don’t seem to care unfortunately, let alone look into the issue a little further.

I heard Dealers service departments get to charge BMW AG for any major warranty repairs they have to do if it's over a certain amount of hours + Cost of parts (No upcharge). If they don't think they can find anything serious enough to be worth it to them, they will put it off to wait for something more "Chargeable" to break.

If it were me, and I was having the problem, I'd escalate to BMW customer relations, irrespective of whether or not the dealer thinks it's "so rare". They have an obligation such things. I mean, honestly they don't have a clue what's making the sound, so it could be something serious.

I posted on another thread about the popping and creaking in my i5. It’s at slow speeds for me too, but only when turning, like in and out of parking spaces. Definitely sounds like worn suspension to me.
I took it to the dealer and the service manger agreed it didn’t sound normal. Since it was a new car he said BMW corporate techs needed to check it out and they came back with…its normal…another i5 on the lot did the same thing. At any rate its documented and if enough people report the issue maybe they will do something about it one day. |
