540 mpg
So I am going to prefix this with - please excuse the dust and the overall crappy quality of that picture. Its neither easy nor safe to take pics while driving
In any case, figured will share, two people onboard, car in sport mode, AC blasting and ventilated seats on - 35.2mpg

I've taken 10 trips of 150 miles. I've gotten 38.5 - 40.1 mpg in Economy mode on the interstate.

That’s amazing - my old N52 3.0NA in my 328 would get me 25mpg if I nailed my highway cruising speed, but normally 23-24mpg with just 228bhp. Impressive progress!

I haven't reset the trip computer since I got the car. I have driven 6400 miles and my overall mpg is 32.2. This includes an equal amount of true city driving and highway. I'm absolutely amazed by this efficiency. My outgoing G30 540 was giving me 25.5 mpg. The fact that the G60 is about 400 lbs heavier with an engine that's rated (conservatively) at 375hp vs. 335 hp for the G30 is nothing short of amazing.

These great numbers are due to the hybrid system in the cars right? I assume the old models you are referring to did not have a hybrid system?

The G30 had a mild hybrid setup since 2021 and I don't think that changed its fuel economy much if at all. Mild hybrid systems rarely contribute to fuel economy, the main reason for the improvements is because the B58 Gen 3 in the G60 has cylinder deactivation.

G30 averaged 26 mpg. G60 after 4500 miles is 28 mpg. Exactly the same city highway blend.

Not entirely sure, but 540 might have an ISG mild hybrid system instead of the BSG on the 530. It's hard to get information on this right now, but that could be a factor. |

Here's a plot twist...
Both my prior G30s (pre and post LCI) also had excellent fuel economy. This is highway driving in sport mode. No idea if that mild-hybrid has something to do with it so wont speculate. One of the last pics from my old G30, before G60 arrived. 35.5mpg looks soooo photogenic, I just couldn't resist then:

Just reading the September/October issue of Car and Driver, which has a short review of a 2024 540i xDrive. They also logged impressive fuel economy.
Overall fuel economy during their testing was 28mpg (75mph highway test was 37mpg) — digging through the archives, a 2021 540i in their hands got 22mpg overall (75mph highway test was 34mpg). These numbers begin to approach my 523d touring here in Japan, but with a lot more power, of course. Again, impressive. 2021 test here: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...y-the-numbers/ Unfortunately, I haven’t found a link to the 2024 short review yet — I read it in my Apple News Car and Driver issue. I get 35.3 mpg in my 3,432# 240 at 72 mph. As the kids would say (from back in the day) "We be livin' large!"
