Lane departure warning

So I was just wondering guys with the lane departure warning I'm noticing that if I swerve out of the lane too many times this thing begins to start dinging like 9 or 10 times as a warning is that normal I think I have it on the expanded setting but there's no way to turn that audible off I think it's a little too excessive

I think you can turn it off - per the manual….

Is this due to a lane change? If so, does it do it if you actually use the blinker? lol

Yeah, the steering wheel will vibrate when I change lanes without signaling. I’m sure the audio is the same.

Replacement BMW blinker fluid is expensive, they tell me 😉

I have the same issue with my 2024 X5. The 1st time departing the lane, it will beep a couple of times. But do it again, and you are sent to time out! It beeps at least 10x, even after you are in the center of the lane. I cannot figure out how to keep the warnings active, but less intrusive.

My assumption is that it doesn't beep at all, if you use the blinker, yes?

If you're doing multiple lane changes without signaling in short order, I'm assuming that it thinks you:
  • Have fallen asleep
  • Are drunk and don't realize you're zig zagging across lanes
  • Thinks you are having a medical emergency
  • Thinks you're choking on your espresso (see #3)
  • Have run out of BMW Blinker Fluid and need a subtle remind to refill it

Oh, it is 100% my fault, when I drive too close to the lines, generally the shoulder lines to give more space in the center area between cars. It is not about changing lanes.

Gotcha! I'm probably going to be in for it too then. I get over a bit when traffic gets tight like that, too

And the X5 is FAR more sensitive to lane departure than my Tesla Model 3.

You almost have to with Motorcycles lane splitting.

LOL! When I moved from Florida to California, I had a motorcycle endorsement. I was in the State about a month before I went to the California DMV to get my new license and change my vehicle registration.

The lady behind the counter, ask me if I would like to carry over my motorcycle endorsement from Florida. I smiled, and simply said "No, Thank You."

Thirty days was more than enough time for me to decide that I would never own one while traversing the hellscape of California's roadways. Lane splitting seemed practical when traffic was standing still, but watching people going up the middle during 20-40mph traffic gave me anxiety just watching them. One abrupt lane change, by anyone in traffic, and they were toast.

I'd love to see some statistics on how often the average California driver changes lanes during a commute. lol.

Todd, it can be scary in Spain as well. Except it's the damned Motos (Vespa like scooters Most are 49cc so you don't need a Motorcycle endorsement. 125cc if you have had an EU drivers license for 2 years or more.) They seem to defy the laws of physics as well as any human laws. Especially during tourist season (NOW). They will pass on the left, on the right, and seemingly underneath or over the roof. They won't respect traffic circles, or stop lights. And if you hit one, it's almost automatically your fault. Especially if you are an American. It's almost as bad with those freaking electric kick scooters. Seems they are everywhere now.
