i5 Comfort vs Sports Seats - iDrive Option Comparison
Hello! New to BMW, but fond childhood memories as a passenger in the family car. I myself haven't had a car in 15 years; last time was enjoying an Altima Coupe during my first job out of school.
About to put in an order for a new i5 eDrive40 M Sport (Japan region) and having difficulty understanding the differences in the seat controls between the Comfort Seats and the Sports Seats. For what it's worth, the comfort seats are labeled "full leather" for merino taupe gray / atlas gray ( https://configure.bmw.co.jp/ja_JP/configid/jxyj40bs ), and the Sports Seat is labeled just "leather" for the merino silver stone II / atlas gray ( https://configure.bmw.co.jp/ja_JP/configid/hpoqoyxg ). From photos I've found, it seems the physical controls down on the seat near the door are the same between the two. Does anyone know if different options will appear in iDrive software between comfort seats and sport seats? Thanks! I'm also getting confused as the configuration tool is showing a loss of seat memory and lumbar support when switching from the leather sport seats to the leather comfort seats. The person I met at the dealership (SA?) also said that one of them doesn't have the ventilated seats but the site seems to indicate both will have. BTW he's claiming a 5-month wait. |

I'm not 100% sure of EVERY difference between the two, but refer to this post to see what my car has as part of the Luxury Seating Package. My post is #6 in this thread:
https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2091281 I'm sure you'll find other good information in that thread as well.

SkykingUSA nice, thanks; looks like lumbar support is still possible either way then.
Too bad there aren't any lighter colors available in the comfort seats in this region. Still haven't put the deposit down so might go into the dealer one more time to see if I can see the seats and colors in person. Also mDrive40 isn't available here, though it'd probably also go over the parking lot weight limit anyways. |

Update: Ended up getting the sports seats, but dealership delivery yesterday didn't go through as there was paint scratch and dent near the rear wheel. Dealership was the one who proactively pointed it out and offered us a loaner i5 with the comfort seats for a few weeks while they fix the car, so will get firsthand experience with both.
If we like the comfort seats better, will switch to a few years later next time. |

Hey pixelcort, did you ever decide on what seats you liked more after trying both - the sport seats or the comfort seats? I'm curious.

Ended up trying both, the sports seats are fine and good enough so ended up getting the sports seats as there was an earlier shipment with that in the config. Don't mind the missing thigh/head controls as physically moving them is easier than going into the menus anyways.
TBH both sports and comfort are comfortable enough, but not super comfortable, but at least don't feel like missing out on much. |

I'm a bit confused. My G60 540 has the luxury seating package. Are these the sport seats? The package calls them ergnomically designed and multi-function seating and they have the ventilation feature - a $1350 option in the US.
Whatever they are called I find them very comfortable although unlike past years, the massage feature is not available. |

Yes, the comfort seats have more control over the thigh support - you can move the thigh support up and down (in addition to the standard forward and back). The comfort seats also make the up/down headrest adjustment powered. There is no massage function currently.
