Rattling noise in the interior

Hi everyone,

After about 5,000 km, I’ve started noticing a rattling sound coming from the A or B pillar. Unfortunately, I can’t pinpoint the exact location of the noise. Has anyone experienced similar interior noises and possibly found a solution?

Best regards,
Musti

I had a rattling noise that sounded like a vibration coming from the passenger side. Sounded like something vibrating when I went over bumps. I couldn’t pinpoint it but sounded like it was coming from the glove box or AC vent. The dealer fixed it. It was the windshield washer fluid reservoir. The dealer said it was a know problem and that there was a bulletin about it.

If it's coming from the right hand side of the vehicle sounding like it's the door or the glove compartment it's the windshield washer reservoir I had the same issues they replaced the hole unit

I'm wondering if this fix is being implemented at the factory for the 2025's? Or if they re-designed the tank?

That’s an interesting question. My assumption is that if a bulletin comes out from the manufacturer, about some non critical item that can be fixed if a customer experiences symptoms, that the fix would be rolled into the standard assembly process to mitigate downstream issues.

I wonder how often they call their part manufacturers and say, hey, makes this 2.5cm wider, or change this capacitor to a beefier one? Or do they simply stick with the original part and do the “field modification”. (e.g. Add a secondary strap to the windshield fluid reservoir for additional security)?

I feel the would be resolved in the build process because of the open bulletin that means that it was a lot of these reported

I think it depends on how many of them they already have in the parts bins, and/or if they use the same tank in another model that doesn't have this problem. Like maybe the X5.

So I would assume they either change the part, change the build process, by adding more padding or something to secure it better, like the aforementioned strap, or something like that. I am sure they probably don't shitcan several thousand washer tanks. They do build like 1600 5ers per day I saw.

I'm from Singapore and I was wondering if I'm the "lucky" one in million until I chanced upon this post!

I have the exact same issue; A faint knocking coming from the front right side (dash/door) when going over humps or uneven roads.

my car is just a month old. it sounds as if it's coming from inside the cabin...something like a harness or whatever came loose, knocking against the plastic trims.

if it is indeed due to the washer fluid reservoir, what did they do? tighten some loose screws or replace the entire assembly?

thanks guys.

If it’s of help to anyone, when I they replaced my washer fluid tank, the repair invoice identified the bulletin as SIB 61-01-24. This is in the United States. Not sure if would be the same everywhere else.

Do BMW publish or have a paid website where we can view these bulletins? For some other makes, it is possible to pay for 1 hour / 1 day access to system to view all bulletins / manuals for your model or VIN. I usually print them out for the workshop who is sometimes clueless, especially for less common complaints.
