So a couple of new and old things returning...

So this is a new one for me. Yesterday my son was driving, he has a permit and is learning. As we were driving the screen on its own went from CarPlay to the welcome screen No one touched the screen or controls on the console. It also changed the mirrors. I was instructing him to switch lanes and that's when he noticed the mirrors had moved. I know they did in fact move because we a re practicing for his road test and I had him adjust everything as if he was taking the test.

Has this happened to anyone else. It's crazy to me with all the problems I have had with this thing that this could d happen also.

The other thing that happened was when I got in the car later I hit the seat memory "1". Nothing changed, I just got a message that no memory was set for "1". However when I pressed "2" which is my wife's memory, it went to her settings. I then immediately tried 1 again and still nothing. I just adjusted the seat and did my run. Was in the store for like 20 minutes, came back tried again and voila it went to my settings for "1".
I would call the dealer again but what's the point. I get the crappy party line "if it's not doing it when I bring it in there's nothing they can do. Even when I brought in a video they said well it's not doing it now.
Another question. I have turned off the steering wheel vibration for lane assist, and confirmed the selection says off. Yet I still get steering wheel feedback when switching lanes. Not all the time though. I even get them if I use the directional. Is this normal to still get alerts through the steering wheel ?

Thanks

Have you done a full factory reset on your car? If not, I wonder if that might help with some of your gremlins. I work in IT and when we can’t figure something out, we blow it away and start from scratch.

This did happen to me just one time - I was driving and the iDrive seemed to do a reboot, AC turned off and then it didn’t find my BMW ID, so as you noted, the settings weren’t there, mirrors pointed to the ground. It surprised me that this would occur while I was driving, but it all returned to normal when I got to my destination and then restarted the car to drive home. It’s never happened to me again, so I’ve not given it another thought, but yeah, very odd.

There are so many little, albeit annoying glitches and bugs with this iteration of idrive that I already stopped counting.

It feels like we should be paid for this beta testing exercise.

I had the pre and post LCI G30. The MY18 G30 did not feel that undercooked. The LCI really perfected that older idrive..so yeah we have ~two more years of holding that volume button for 10 sec.

Regarding the steering wheel vibration, yes, this seems to be something you can't completely turn off. As you, I've tried but it still gently vibrates the steering wheel when I cross a line. I truly wish there was a way to completely disable this, but it seems there isn't.

Regarding the first issue, occasionally the car seems to "forget" who's driving it. When that happens I go to the "BMW ID" app and uncheck and then recheck my ID. That seems to straighten everything out.

Lol. Don't they always win. Simple solution is to turn off Bluetooth on the wife's phone unless she is driving. Then the car doesn't have to decide. I don't have my phone even paired to her car. So, she doesn't need hers to pair to mine.

I sort of have this problem in my Mercedes. I have 2 phones. One my personal Android phone, and one work issued IPhone. My car can never decide which one to pair, and makes me select which one. If I don't it does nothing. So I unpaired the Work one as the quickest solution.

Usually HAVE to do just that. The reason it is paired is because when we take 1 car I drive. Living in Bklyn and driving in NYC area too many cameras. I always have Waze on.
And my music is better, lol

So this happened to me again on my commute home today - the iDrive screen went black and I had to reboot it with the volume wheel. When that happened it didn’t have my BMWID, so I was able to rescue that with my card key when I came to a stop in traffic. Will be looking to see if this recurs, kind of annoying.

It's kind of scary that it happens when you're driving. That isn't safe.

I’m gonna call this one in - no drive functionality or controls of the car were impacted, but I’d like to know more.
