No more spare tires
I just spoke with the BMW NA Genius line, and starting with MY 2025, spare tires are no longer available (at least in the US). You get the charming mobility kit instead. Anyone out there heard anything different? I had called BMW NA as the Ordering Guide only shows the mobility kit as standard. No options for spare tires.

In MY 2024 it came with the spare tire as standard, but the mobility kit was a $0 option. It deleted the spare tire in favor of the mobility kit. Now they charge for the spare. Its right there on the options sheet. Look in the Sticky's someone posted here the MY 2025 options sheet back in May. I attached it here. Last edited by AiredaleDad; 07-18-2024 at 06:53 PM.. Thanks for the info. BMW's distribution of info has tumbled quite a bit - very disorganized from website, build your own, "Genius" assistance. Very sad.

Maybe people would be able to see it for themselves if BMW would update the configurator site. It still is reflecting 2024, even though you can no longer order a 2024. I suspect it's because they are trying to point you to the dealers that have unsold 2024 Spec-Cars in your area that are Close to what you want (I have never seen more than around 80% and they are almost always Black, White, or not M Sport Pro.) Why let you build a 2025 if you can get a leftover 2024. Meanwhile other models like the 4 series have moved to the 2025 MY in the configurator. |

I have to say, the ordering process felt really opaque for my G60. I started the process and placed my order before I joined this forum and learned so much more after learning from folks here.
I’ll say my 328i SW was initially spec’d with runflats *that I hated* and I switched out to regular tires and carried a “comfort kit” with me for years. I ended up getting quite used to the setup and somehow only caught a couple of punctures when I was at home over multiple years of ownership. |

Keep in mind getting a puncture at 40 MPH and being able to pull over immediately is not the same as one when you are traveling 85 MPH on the freeway in the fast lane. By the time you get to the side of the road someplace safe, the tire is pretty much done for. A mobility kit won't help you there. And you will wish you had that spare tire. I won't ever be caught without one again. When I travel, I insist on a car that has one if I am driving any distance outside the city. |

How exactly does the "mobility kit" work? Is it one of those things that spray expandable 'goo' into your tire to temporarily plug the leak?
I've had two tire related issues in the past 3 years. In one incident I picked up something that caught the tire and within <10 minutes of picking it up, the low tire pressure warning light came on and I pulled over on a residential street to assess what was wrong. The location of the object was in an area that preluded repair. Fortunately, the tread depth difference at the time between the existing tire and new one, were within Audi's tolerance for installation without having to either shave down the new tire or replace the others. The one I had this year, was a really slow leak. I was able to take it to a tire shop and have them patch the tire. $25 later, I was back on the road. My concern, or perhaps question about the kit, should you elect to or absolutely have to use it, is does it ruin the tire so that it could not be patched? |
