Dinan Tune or something similar

Did anyone with a previous gen 540i do a Dinan tune or something similar on it?

And if so when they come out with their tune for the G60 would you do it again?

Not a B58, but I slapped the Dinan Stage 1 piggyback on my B46 and would 100% do it again. No impact on fuel economy (aside from right-foot syndrome) and totally transformed the car.

Been 40k miles so far with zero issues.

I still have my G30 540i with Dinan Elite V2 tune - the piggyback warranted version - that raises the BHP and Torque from stock B58B30M0 335bhp/332lb-ft to the same level as the G60's B58B30M2 engine. I've had it on the car for well on 4 years and love it. However, with the new B58 yielding the same power and torque I don't see the point.

Now if Carbahn or some other reliable tuner were able to safely get 420-450 BHP out of the engine then I'd consider. My local dealer that sold me the 540i and prior F30 340i with V2 tune also was a Dinan dealer and installed the tunes. I think they have dropped their Dinan dealer arrangement.

I called dinan and they are working on releasing a new tune for the G60. If the power is close to the 450 mark I’m definitely interested. My only concern is voiding the warranty if there is no real partnership anymore.
Burger has the JB4 for the G30 which increases the HP by 100. Just not sure if they are “safe” to run.

There is no shortage of Burger/JB4 supporters but like you I'm concerned with how safe it is. That's more down to my lack of research on JB4 than knowing there is a specific issue. My Dinan tunes pre-date Steve Dinan leaving and subsequent sale/relocation of the company, so he very likely was involved in the development and was ahead of the curve offering matching warranties. He started Carbahn about 5 years ago and has followed a similar path to what he did with his namesake company.

Just remember that with any aftermarket tune, if it is specifically identified to have caused engine damage, you can be denied BMW OEM warranty coverage. But it has to be specifically attributed to the tune so they can't deny you warranty coverage for something totally unrelated to the tune, like lights, windows, etc stop working. That's where the tuner warranty comes in...if BMW denies warranty coverage then the tuner's warranty bridges the gap. In the past, the relationship between Dinan and BMW dealerships made that pretty smooth but not sure anymore.

I would wait until it's tested. It might fit but we need testing as the new gerenation does not run the same boost and timing as the old one. Adding 3-4 PSI blindly on a platform that targets high boost and runs lean might not be the greatest idea.

Great advise here, one thing though is typically the "tuner warranty" only applies to the modifications performed... for example, bolt-on performance parts would be covered under the tuner warranty if there were issues specific to them. However, if these bolt-on parts blew a motor or something, the tuner warranty would not pay for an OEM motor from BMW.

I've had JB4 installed on my 540xi with no issues for over a month now. It's still not listed yet on their site for the G60 5 but is the same as 740 with B58 Gen 3. The pulls are great and definitely makes a great difference.

Any idea what the 0-60 is with the JB4 installed?
