the woes of a funky tail gate F31

I have a 2018 F31 Xdrive (50k miles) with a funkytailgate.
It will pop about a 1/4 of an inch but then not raise all the way until I give it a little help with my hand.
its the same situation if I do it with the button in the car or the button on the remote.
I have checked the battery and it's great.

Any ideas?
Any help appreciated... thanks

Is yours a power liftgate?

Mine behaved similarly.

I made an appointment with the dealer.

Before the appointment, one day, I tried to give it a bit of help like you did. I heard what sounded like a shotgun blast. One of the struts failed spectacularly. The spring went flying. Plastic shrapnel was everywhere.

It was out of warranty, so the repair cost about $900.

At least I could open the rear window and get cargo in and out of the car, until the parts arrived and the hatch was fixed.

ooof. yes mine is a power lift. Sometimes I can hit the button again and it will go up. But i’m pretty sure that used to be just one button press

closing the loop here.
I fixed mine, quite a simple one after all.
The mechanisms was a little sticky and needed some light grease.
I cleaned with WD40 by lightly spraying a small amount in there, then I used some light weight grease and put a little in the metal contact areas.
All good and been good for a while now.

Good! Your result was better than mine. :-)
