i5 M60 for a weekend - consumption, comparison with 520xd and i4 m50
Hi guys,
I got a i5 M60 for a weekend. The car is equipped I guess with everything, it has Carbon package, Merino leather, seat cooling/heating and 21" wheels. I think it doesn't have M-Professional suspension, just adaptive. I will compare the car to the 520xd that I am driving and to i4 M50 I am driving too. 1. Steering - the steering is almost the same as in 520xd, on low speeds it is more direct and the rear-wheel steering makes you can feel this car is smaller as it is. It also easier to reverse than 520xd and turn around. On higher speed to steering is the same. 2. Suspension - my 520xd has M-Sport Suspension and 20" wheels. The suspension form M60 is more comfortable even on 21" but on very damaged road it will behave similar as M-Sport. Light road damages are better soaked by M60. Comparing to i4 M50 is similar. I would say 21" wheels makes the ride a bit harsh and 20" would be definitely better. 3. Music/sound - big disappointment here. My 520xd has Harman-Kardon sound and it sound dull in FM station and quite impressive in DAB station. I was expecting the Bowers and Wilkins from M60 to sound mature and will surround me regardless of FM/DAB. I was disappointed. The B&W sounded similar to H&K in DAB stations. I don't see upgrade here. Here the winner is i4 with H&K sound. It has more power and sounds much better. 4. Interior, cabin - pretty much the same as 520xd. The ambient bar makes good job, it's much better looking and is appealing. Tomorrow I will see what can I fit into the trunk and compare to 520xd. Will post the pictures. The seats are somehow difficult for me. In my 520xd they are comfort seats, those are regular sports. For me the best still I ever had were from G30. Since then I couldn't find such a seats. 5. Consumption/power: So I spent in this car 220km and the average consumption was 22kWh/100km. Interestingly, the car average is 29kWh/100km - it is demo car and it is pushed every time I guess. I tested this car in winter with heating, temperature -5 driving around 45km (mixed) and the system showed the result 24.5kWh/100km. I did 80% highway and 20% city, highway was mostly 120km/h, sometimes 130km/h and a 100km/h for a while. I did also few strong pushes to feel the power.. Well - this car is quicker than i4.. and obviously 520xd. The smoothness how the car starts from traffic lights is just awesome. It's crisp. 6. Highway only consumption: Below is the consumption on different speeds. Few words about testing process: I tried to drive 30km, temperature was 26 degree, mode was Sport and only dampers were activated on Sport, rest Comfort. Seat cooling ON, Fan strength - medium, temperature inside car 19.5. Comparing the results to i4 m50 - they are around 2kWh/100km higher. For example driving 120km/h my i4 takes 19.5-20kWh/100kmm, M60 needs 21.5 which is also very good. I was also mega surprised seeing the result of 16kWh/100 driving 100km/h. I was expecting more like 19 or 20. I think that replacing the wheels for 20" might bring a big improvement. According to the figures we would get following range: 100km/h: 507km range 120km/h: 377km range 130km/h: 362km range Overall, it is much better car than diesel version. Especially because of handling (rear-steering) and the power, which is instant! The consumption could be better especially for 120km/h but I think it is mostly because of the wheels. The configurator claims it is over 1kWh/100km higher than 19". So I guess 20kWh/100 is achievable and therefore car should be able to make 400km driving 120km/h. If the lease is over for diesel I am going for this definitely. Cheers! Last edited by mariopl; 07-13-2024 at 03:40 PM.. |

My guess is you left the Bowers & Wilkins stereo at it’s default settings. You have to turn off Logic 7 or else it will sound like a Harmon Kardon. When I first got the car, I felt the stereo was no where near as good as the Meridian in my Jaguar. Then I figured out the settings and it is amazing.

Thx guys for the input! I didn’t know that regarding B&W sound.
Unfortunately the car has been returned already to dealer. But maybe if I sell my 520xd I will go back to this. PS. Regarding the specs - the car was maxed out including M Professional suspension that’s why it took more kWh/100, I guess on 20” without this suspension would be easily 2kWh/100 less. |
