Standard vehicle warranty transfer?
Currently own a 2020 3 series but looking at a 2024 5 series with low mileage, but it's being sold by a Bentley dealership. The 530i was a loaner previously so clean car fax but classified as "rental".
Trying to determine if the BMW 4 year/50k mile warranty would still apply to the car if I purchased it. Reading conflicting info because there are so many warranty types, and unsure if car needs to be a Certified Pre-owned BMW to get that warranty. Thanks in advance |

Manufacturer’s warranty should still apply. Any additional warranties would need to be transferred though

That vehicle will be 100% covered under the original manufacturer warranty - BMW 4 year/50k (or the remainder of it).

I'd still give the BMW dealer a call after your purchase to see if they need anything from you to make it official, or something for the BMW system now vs. later.

For example, if the car has had independent mechanics carrying out work on it or if compatible after market replacement parts have been used rather than BMW ones etc. In the UK it is 3 years and unlimited miles but to keep that warranty any servicing / work required has to be done by BMW staff at approved BMW workshops. Unlikely to be an issue though, so always better to get the remaining warranty confirmed by BMW before purchase. No chance you want to own a G60 at a year old or less without a warranty. Way too risky |

In the US you do not have to do any work thru BMW. You can do it yourself or use an independent shop. If you deviated from a BMW product and it causes the warranty work, that may be an issue but other than that US warranty is going to cover

This is from consumer reports
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act was a law that was passed in the 1970s and states that it’s not legal to require the use of a manufacturer part or service in order to maintain a warranty,” says Keith Barry, Consumer Reports’ senior autos editor. “You can have your car serviced anywhere and still maintain the manufacturer’s warranty. You can bring the car to a place like Jiffy Lube, to an independent shop, or even another dealership that’s not the same car brand as your car.” |
