A/C Issues G60 540ix
Anyone with a G60, most especially 540ix, having A/C issues? I took delivery of my 540ix on 3/4/24 that I ordered in Nov 2023, Final Assembly date: Jan 18, 2024. Realized before leaving the dealership on Mar 4 that the A/C was not working. They took it in the shop and told me they did not think the freon (or whatever the refrigerant) was never loaded on the car. They loaded the freon and an hour later I was on my way home. Two months to the day, May 4, I quickly realized the A/C was not working. I called my salesperson in Athens GA but took the car to Birmingham (AL) BMW because I live close by. They determined that the low pressure fitting was not tightened properly, so they tightened it and loaded freon, and kept the car overnight so that they could check and test it the following morning. Later that day I picked up the car. 31 days later, my A/C ain't working, so I called BMW NA today and gave them an earful... Anyone else having A/C issues with a G60??? I'm fearing I got a lemon on my hands. And this my 7th BMW going back to 1987.. It's feeling more like a #13! It seems if the A/C system had some design flaw, there would be many posts re: G60s A/C issues... It must be some issue with who worked assembly the day mine was produced or some defective part they haven't diagnosed?

That’s a bummer - it seems most of the feedback is in the opposite direction noting that the AC is pretty good in the G60. Hope your issue gets resolved soon.

I have a new 540 and Texas heat has finally arrived - ugh. I had my car in hot sun for about two hours yesterday and felt that the AC did a very good job of cooling the car quickly. I also find the new system for controlling flow velocity and direction to be quite decent.
Good luck with your problem, OP. |

Two weeks of being in the shop, they say/believe the issue is a leak in the condenser unit and a dual pipe that connects to the compressor. They ordered the parts from Germany and called me a week later that the parts are on backorder and no prospective date to ship, so BMW NA says replace the car. In the process of working with Sonic/Birmingham BMW to settle on something they have if we can agree on terms or else they'll be building me a new one. Really frustrating. Lemon law has kicked in now with them having had my car for over 30 days and not being able to fix the car after 3rd attempt.

Zero issues. AC keeps the car freezing cold in 90+ degree weather. Ventilated seats work incredibly well too (first time ever in a BMW).

I have the 540xi. First of all the ventilated seats are really effective and help make the car feel cool. The A/C in the car is very capable when the car is in motion over 10 mph. It's not very good at all, however, when the car is stopped or creeping along.

Start/Stop is awful for A/C performance. Keep the car in Sport Mode, so the engine always stays on. A/C will be good then! |

What I don't understand is in extreme cold weather. I think anything under 37°, at least in my G30. The stop and go wouldn't even operate. So how come? That's not the same case with the air conditioning. If it's 90 plus degrees out. Why does the engine have to shut off when you're at a stop sign? I feel it should stay active to keep the ambient temperature at sixty or sixty five.Wherever you have it, I think just could be a computer adjustment If the temperature is 65 in the cabin.
When the engine shuts off but then starts to go up in a couple of minutes. I feel the engine should power on by itself. And it does, but you have to sit quite quite a few minutes before the engine comes back on.
