BMW Wallbox charger issue

i4, iX, i5 and i7...I have used a Level II Chargepoint charger in our home garage. 100% perfect.

My dealer gave me a brand new BMW Wallbox Charger and it is installed and "working".

2nd time now, I plug in using the Level II BMW Wallbox and the charger illuminates blue, the inside of the charge port turns white, the main instrument panel in the car shows the car is plugged in, but the charger never blinks blue when active charging, the inside of the charge port does not blink blue and the instrument panels does not reflect active charging

I unplug the BMW Wallbox and plug back in, and then the inside of the charge port turns red and the car's instrument panel turned red and says Unable to Charge.

I once again unplug the BMW Wallbox and then plug in....and everything is fine. Blinking blue, instrument panel in car showing active charging, etc...

Anyone else experience this?

Hey Deutsch - I saw that there was a separate discussion about the wallbox over in the iX forum. It turned out that the installer did not flip the right dip switch to enable open access charging - any chance you have the same issue?

Thanks RichardInCA

I can check, but most of the time when I plug in using the BMW Wallbox, it starts charging right away. I'd think if this switch is not in the correct place for open access charging, I would get the fault every time. No?

Ahhh, sorry, I thought you meant the 2nd time you’d tried using it not the 2nd time you’d had this problem.

Just got a BMW Wallbox (PN 61 90 5 A1E 1B3) installed but it's not working.
Plug in the cable to the car but the charging light would just go out (not even lit) after 30 seconds or so.
Here is the DIP switch setting of the box :
Name: Wallbox DIP Switch setting 062624.png
Views: 550
Size: 640.5 KB
POS 1 and 2 : OFF --> Free access, TN Earth system
POS 3 to 5 : all ON --> Max charging current 40A

In fact I also tried 01111 (Free access, TT/IT, 40A), also not working.
The box is lit with steady blue, which I think means it's on and ready.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Any help would be much appreciated.

And I was told by my dealer I need to buy one.
Right I think I will pass and count down the months until the end of my lease.

Not sure what your dealer meant there, other than perhaps wanting to sell you one? Seems like there’s a range of different chargers to choose from, most of us have no issues though - I’ve got a wallbox that is hardwired to my main panel and have had zero issues.

EVERY TIME I plug my car into my new BMW Wall box...nothing. No lights, no clicking...nothing.

The Wall Box is lit steady blue.

I unplug, plug back in...and it charges right away.

Did you unplug, and plug back in?

Exactly. Nothing but excuses and condescension from them regarding my vehicle.

Got a new iPhone a few days ago, set it up deleted the old one from this vehicle. Successfully paired it and seemed to be working fine. Yesterday CarPlay wouldn't connect AGAIN. I even went into the carplay app and it wouldn't connect screen seemed like it froze. This is after it was working and I stopped at a store, the car clocked and it was about 15 minutes later. Just absolutely amazingly frustrating that this thing is so unreliable. Only 31 more months.

I had same issues on the IX, where it worked ok, I would go into a store for 5 minutes , would come back to car and it wouldn’t work.
Seems to have straightened itself out. Maybe the 3/2024 update that I got 2 weeks ago helped.

Did it 'master reset' with the 50A breaker.
Now it appears that the Wallbox is working but only at no more than 32A.
