Parking Assistant Stops Unexpectedly

Have any of you seen this when using parking assistant to reverse out of a parking space? My i5 will suddenly stop when there is someone standing to the rear of the car even though the person is outside of the reversing path of the car. My sense is that the system recognizes it is a person and as such is concerned that they may suddenly move into the reversing path. Any thoughts?

My car did an OTA software update last week, so I'm running on the latest version.

I noticed that too. When I'm backing out of the garage, sometimes my wife waits outside the garage because it's easier for her to get in. However if she stands too close to the back of the car it will not let me back out. She has to hide around the side of the house so the car sensors can't see her then I can back out. Even though she's not in the path of the car, it still makes noises and stops. It probably predicts that she may walk behind the car and for safety's sake stops.

Is there any way to defeat this? I'm concerned because the street where I back out of my house is pretty narrow, and sometimes cars park on the other side leaving barely enough room to back into the street. I'm concerned my car will think I am backing into another car and won't let me back out. Plus people here in Spain have a tendency to just walk behind you when you are backing out of a parking spot. They don't think "Oh there's a moving car backing out, let me stop and wait" They just keep going and leave it to you to see them.

I believe the system can recognize the difference between a fixed object, such as a parked car, and a person. Exiting my garage requires that I pass close to a fence, but the car is fine with that. It's when someone is standing next to the fence that it will suddenly stop and not allow me to continue backing up. As for the people casually walking behind your car, not much you can do about that as the car intentionally will stop to avoid hitting them.

I use the car’s system to reverse out of my driveway all the time. Hands off the wheel, press the accelerator to start then press the brake to stop. So far, it hasn’t hit cars, plants, trees, garbage bins or moving children.
