A/C very good while moving; really anemic in stop and go traffic
Definitely a huge improvement over the weak A/C in the G30 and F10 but I really wish it was designed to push more cool air when the car is idling or at a stop.
I generally avoid pushing the "Max A/C" button because it's so noisy but in stop and go traffic like we so often deal with in NYC, you have to as, left to its own devices, the A/C is just not capable of keeping the car cool on hot, humid days while stuck at a stop light or inching along at 5 mph. To be fair, many cars suck at this and the car is fully capable of maintaining arctic temperatures once moving along at a good clip. |

Are you driving in a mode that enables ASS (Automatic Start Stop)? Sitting with engine off will make AC unusable. That is what pisses me off the most about that useless ASS function.

That’s interesting. I suppose as an i5 owner we don’t experience this when the car is in stop and go traffic.

Yes, I drive almost exclusively in personal mode. And, as we all know, there's no way to disable ASS other than to drive the car in sport mode.

I think if the engine is off when stopped in stop and go traffic, the A/C compressor cannot run thus the cooling will be markedly less effective.

well what I've noticed is if the ambient temp going up while say at a traffic light the car turns back on depending on how hot it is outside sometimes it doesn't turn off at all

Zero issue here in 540, traffic or no traffic.
Also, in constant stop and go traffic ASS will sooner or later stop shutting down the engine on its own. Is not like the car will constantly stop/start the engine in some crazy NYC neverending, bumper to bumper traffic. Engine will start/stop a bunch of times and then it won't stop anymore (battery constraint). |

This affects many cars across many brands with the stupid and absurd auto start stop. Mercedes might be worse than BMW when stopped. The A/C blows tepid and weak and does not come back cold and strong until the engine re-starts again!
For me, another win for all electric! |

Try training yourself, so that when the engine shuts off, let up your foot pressure on the brake just enough to where the engine will start again, thinking you are about to go, but not enough to where you actually start moving. I have done this on any rental cars I have had with ACC, and it works like a charm. This will be my first car with ACC, since my Range Rover doesn't have it, and my Mercedes is a 6 speed Manual and doesn't have it either.

I’ve complained to BMW about the weak AC due to ASS. The basically said there is nothing they can do. It’s totally bs. We need a way to disable that horrific ASS system.

Yeah, the past two days I’ve really noticed at stop lights the temperature swing. And moisture immediately forms on my interactive light bar under the vents. So as another said, I’m training myself to ease up on the brake to make the AC kick back on without moving. Annoying but with 90-100 humid weather in the DC area this week, need it to keep running at lights. You’d think BMW would at least make it so the AC system doesn’t start blowing fresh/humid air when stopped at a light!
