Traveling Across New York in the i5 M60–Charging Experience
I’ve had my M60 since December.
I was somewhat of a reluctant EV convert. This vehicle replaced my 2021 M550, the most perfect car I’ve ever owned—and I would have gotten another one in a second if BMW still made it. I travel a lot for work and really questioned whether than EV, particularly one with such relatively modest range, would meet my needs (we have a second car, an X5, but my wife principally drives that and uses it to haul kids). Once I drove an M60, I figured I’d give it a shot, though. I’ve started venturing out across the state more in the last few weeks for work meetings and events, and I’ve been pleasantly reassured by the charging experience with the M60. I’ve had no issues finding fast chargers (yesterday ended up at a Jeep dealership in Rochester, though, which was a little different). Charging has been fast and really not all that inconvenient. The new fast chargers being deployed on the NYS Thruway work well and quick. So, the moral of the story is, this is working pretty well for me and the occasional thoughts that I may have made a mistake going electric are subsiding based on the good experiences so far. Would I still have bought another M550 instead if it was available? For a lot of reasons, yes, but I am definitely enjoying this car—and it is a highly capable highway cruiser. It also was quite fun and nimble on the back roads on a stretch of my trip this week up to Ithaca. |
