Digital key question

My main digital key has been acting weird lately. I'd like to try and delete it and reinstall it but I'm concerned about a statement in the manual that suggests that once it's deleted it can't be re-installed (see attached).

Can anyone shed further light on this? My plan was to bring both physical keyfobs down to the car, delete the main digital key and then follow the prompts on the iDrive screen and reinstall it. Is this the way something like this is supposed to be done and am I risking creating a bigger problem by trying this?

That specific digital key cannot be restored without going through the process of creating another digital key as you described with both key fobs in the car. I agree the wording is concerning, but it definitely can be done.

And what exactly is "acting weird?" Any additional details?

Didn't unlock the car when I approached or lock it when I walked away. Yet after I got in with the wallet key card the iDrive system listed the main digital key as "active" but I still couldn't start the car unless I put the wallet key in the charging tray. I rebooted the phone but these problems persisted. Everything was fine this morning when I drove out to the office. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've had this kind of issue.

Make sure passive entry is still turned on in the digital wallet.

Did it unlock when you grabbed the door handle? Or did that not work? Did you try putting the phone to the door handle?

Did you try putting the phone on the wireless charging tray instead of the key card? Or did that not work?

Mine has been doing this for a few days. It sometimes works.

I have previously deleted the digital key and it is pretty straightforward. Get in the car with both key fobs, go to Keys in iDrive and delete it. Your BMW ID is not deleted. Set it back up in your car and it will give you a QR code to scan your BMW Id. It retains all your settings.

When I go into my Samsung wallet the digital key is there and passive entry is enabled but it says "update required" to continue using digital key. So I click "update" and it seems to be updating but when I click digital key again it continues to alert me that this update is needed so it obviously didn't update. I did this a few times and it just keeps alerting me that an update is needed after having repeatedly clicked the update button.

I tried putting the phone next to the door handle and nothing happened. Even the wallet key card was hit or miss with door locking/unlocking when I held it up to the door handle.

I did try putting the phone itself in the charging tray but that also didn't work. But the phone was able to send a lock or unlock (I can't remember which) order to the car successfully. And all the while, the iDrive system was showing that the main digital key was installed and active.

This is why I was thinking that a complete deletion and fresh install may be the way to go.

Sorry to hear it. Sounds like an issue of sorts with the Samsung wallet such that the car knows you have setup a digital key, but it is not detecting its presence. Also, if you used the myBMW app to send the lock/unlock command, that is a totally different functionality from the digital key plus.

Probably thought of this already, but make sure your Bluetooth, NFC and UWB is all still on. Double check to make sure you didn't disable one of them or put the phone in airplane mode and have it not come back fully. Just throwing stuff out there.

I also didn't see whether you tried rebooting iDrive yet. I'd try that before I deleted and re-added the key.

Just wanted to update. I think the problem was the need to update the Samsung Wallet app because after I did this everything worked perfectly this morning. I stopped out at the dealership and one of the geniuses there reset everything and confirmed that pending updates are often the cause for things like this.

So I'm back to loving my G60. I'll consider my frustration of yesterday as a marital spat.

Pending update sounds promising.
