Driver Attention Camera

I just upgraded into the i5 from a 2021 330e. My 330e had Driver Assistance Pro Package, but it was not nearly as good as the pro package on this new i5. 330e was only hands-free (assist plus) up to 40mph, and then it would maintain lane with your hands on the steering wheel (assist). The i5 is hands-free (assist plus) up to 84mph and it does a great job.

I’m a little annoyed with the eye-tracking attention alerts on the i5. My 330e only tracked your eye movements when it was in assist plus mode. If your hands were on the steering wheel, it didn’t bother you with attention alerts. The i5 seems to track your eyes in both assist and assist plus mode. As a result, if I look at my phone (even briefly) or spend more than a few seconds looking at the infotainment screen, the car starts giving me attention alerts and will even disable the assist function after multiple alerts.

Has anyone else found it to be unreasonably sensitive to eye movement? Is there a way to adjust the sensitivity? It’s driving me nuts.

I haven't noticed it being particularly sensitive other than in assist mode if the car comes to a stop due to traffic, and I turn to look at the infotainment screen it will say "automated drive off only possible with attentive driver" or something like that. The sensitivity cannot be adjusted as far as I know.

i5 and i7 is to me absurdly sensitive. Right when I activate, I get the legal warnings and eye attention messages. EVERY time. And you have to scroll down to clear. You cannot go back to media or phone menu, until you scroll and clear the attention warnings and legalese.

This sounds more distracting/dangerous than talking on your phone non hands free.

I’ve never had that happen to me. I push the steering wheel button and let it drive. No messages at all.

When assist plus activates, there is a large warning that pops up on the infotainment display. You can touch to close it, but I usually just ignore it. It disappears on its own fairly quickly.

I wished mine cleared! I wonder why yours clears fairly quickly on its own, and mine does not!?

That explains why I never see it. Thanks.

I’m just cooler than you. Or maybe it’s my magnetic personality?

I’m bumping this topic up.
Interested in following a possible new outcome.

I feel that the camera but also the speed alerts might be to sensitive. I’m interested to see if you can adjust this now, or in the future.

You can adjust speed alerts in the settings to not go off at all.

I used Assist Plus this morning, and when the warning popped up on the Infotainment screen, I did nothing. And it did clear itself (like you said), but it did NOT clear quickly.

I think I need to clear it manually, as my OCD can't wait for the car to self clear

I will time it next time, but I don’t think it takes more than 10 seconds to disappear for me. Time is relative I suppose, but I’m sure physicists would disagree.

I used mine today. Max efficiency at 60mph in the slow lane. Never noticed the message (again).
