So frustrated I could scream
I picked up my new G60 530i M package, 3 weeks ago and honestly thinking I may not keep it. First, please talk me off the ledge. Second, please tell me others are experiencing the same pains as I.
To qualify, this is my 3rd 5-series, (traded in my beloved 2014 for this one), also have had a 428, 325 and an M3. As well as I currently have a R1200GS. I loved the quality of materials, comfort and how they drive. First annoyances. No radar-monitored cruise control. My Mazda CX5 came with this. I assumed all premium brands would include this safety feature. The car shuts off if you get out at the end of my long driveway to grab the mail from the mailbox. The car's dash (radio, etc) doesn't want to shut off. If you configure to 'shut off electronics when opening driver door' , that's fine, until you open the back door or trunk to grab your briefcase. The car 'wakes up again' . I've been instructed to lock the car even while in my garage. Otherwise the car will stay 'awake' and could drain the battery. I've always left the keys in the car in the garage. Harder to lose them this way. The first night I had the car, left the keys in the car and they got locked inside. How does this happen with a FOB? Auto start/stop off cannot be disabled. The salesman said "just drive it in Sport mode". But, the car cannot be configured to startup in Sport mode. The Lane Departure Warning works sometimes, and sometime it doesn't. On the same road (I-93) with the same markings. When it does activate, it doesn't shut off immediately when you center in the Lane. Takes another 3-4 seconds chiming and vibrating and scolding me for my lousy driving. My Samsung A42 will not charge on the charge pad. With or without being in it's case, up down or backwards. Today, I received a call while I was driving and my phone (Android) and my wife's (iPhone) are no longer connected VIA Bluetooth. Just a random occurrence. Got home, got in the Mazda the phone both work there. I'll try and connect again tomorrow. Tonight I'm too mad (or sad) to deal with it. It's a lot of work to drive on the highway. A gentle turn left or right, such as switching lanes or a gradual bend and the steering wheel wants to stay there, and not return to center. Such that I feel like I'm always correcting. I'd love to know if others experience this. If I use the Eco mode, which I like on long highway drives, each time I need to configure the heads-up display to shut off the too large, distracting and useless blue diamond directly in my view. So there you have it. I've met with the geniuses 3 times so far and have a service appt scheduled for next week. Hopefully these items that can, will be resolved. In the meantime, hoping I can get feedback from others that may be living with these issues. Thanks for reading and your feedback. Last edited by ODogs; 05-22-2024 at 08:51 PM.. |

However, no, adaptive cruise control (“active cruise control”) is not standard. You need the DAPP for this. Even on the top of the line iX. This is pretty clear on the BMW website and configurator where adaptive cruise is shown as part of the DAPP. No, you can’t start in sport mode. Others have mentioned it’s possible to lock the car with the fob inside if you have digital key plus enabled. The fob in the car will be temporarily disabled, though, and cannot start the car. Maybe this is because the car thinks you have another key (your phone) outside the car. The beauty of digital key plus is that your phone seamlessly becomes your key. No need to carry a fob anymore. Locking the car allows it to go into “deep sleep” where it performs various diagnostics and sometimes downloads map updates, etc. Not locking the car overnight would prevent these functions. Trade it even for a 2023 540 M Sport. That's probably more to your liking.

I never understood why you can’t set the default drive mode to Sport. I was able to set the auto start/stop off permanently using BimmerCode in my F10. Does bimmercode support the G60?

Seems like a lot of separate issues here - the ones I can speak to from an i5 perspective:
Lane keeping - not had an issue with that when using driver assist, not sure if that’s what you’re referring to? I will get steering wheel vibration due to lane changes with a vehicle in the blind spot (that seems a little overly sensitive) but nothing more. Shutting off electronics - I think there’s no way around needing to lock the car here. I have noticed that my CarPlay will switch off when I exit the car, but like you notice, sometimes music or a podcast will start back up when I retrieve my bag from behind teh drivers seat. when the car locks itself it’s all good though - I use the digital key plus and never even think about this. The car always locks as I walk away. Steering return to center - this sounds a little bit like another poster who noted that they had a hard time with their steering getting “stuck” or really heavy at freeway speed, I think that was a genuine fault and needed steering rack replaced or something. I’ll paste a link if I can find it, but not sure if that’s the same issue? Edit: here you go https://g60.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2091836 |

Someone said it had something to do with a requirement for MPG/KWh ratings. I don’t think coding is possible any longer with iDrive 8.5.

Also you'll probably won't be able to code any new BMW because of their upgraded security. I don't see it getting bypassed anytime soon, if at all. |

The only thing I have experienced is the music. I just press down on the volume knob when exiting the car. I think it stays on because of the i5 sharing the system. If you are sitting in the car charging, you would want to listen to music or watch a video. There is no ‘accessory’ key setting on an EV. They are off or on. I just press that button exiting the car now.

Try this - After you put the car in Park, hit the gas and rev it at least once. It should let you open the door without the car shutting off. It does on my G05, anyway.
