Mid console replacement i5

Hi all,

Just ordered my new i5 40e Touring in carbonschwarz.
I’m really looking forward to delivery in the fall of this year.

One thing that bothers me though, is the gloss black mid console. Had this in previous vehicles and it is one big scratch and dust collector. I understand that the buttons are hard to replace but can you replace and the surrounding gloss back buttons? Or maybe a mat wrap over this? Any thoughts?

Did anyone find a tutorial about taking the mid console apart?

That's a good question. I had a sharp edge on my iDrive controller knob and the dealer said they couldn't just replace the knob, they had to replace the whole console as a unit. They ordered the part and 2-3 weeks later it was replaced. Unfortunately, I don't know how much of the console actually got replaced because it all looks the same to me. Maybe they just lifted out the panel that the knob is connected to, or maybe they took out that whole black unit. I don't know.

Looking forward to finding out what you learn from this question. One plus from this replacement was that the dealer upgraded my iDrive 8.5 version to one of the latest so I could see the Parking Assistant Professional in the iDrive store.

Just found this link to a site that sells PPF for the interior stuff (like the center console). It might be a good option to help prevent the scratches and swirls over time.

If anyone tried or tries this, please share your experience. I wonder how it looks, and how easy it is to apply.

I have the Chemical Guys all purpose interior cleaner in my glove compartment and a microfiber cloth in the console. Spray a little on the cloth and it makes quick work of the finger prints. I use it daily.

I ordered a similar pre-cut PPF kit to the one posted above. Should be here in a couple days. My tint installer said he’d put it on for me.

I’ve really had not a ton of issues here - I’m 6mo in and I’ll give it a wipe over with a microfiber cloth from time to time, but I’ve got no scratches on there. The haptics and ridges that guide your fingers to the haptic zones work great.

The number of parts for the G60 will increase over time and will look better than this:

Thanks for the responses. Maybe I will try the wrap.
Was hoping to get more of a mat plastic part as replacement.

The wrap might do!
Can you guys let me know if anyone tried it? I will receive my car later this year so maybe you will have some experience there to share!
