As expected, several of us are seeing substantially better range than BMW predicted - very nice to see!

Very nice estimate. Be sure to share your actual mileage after your first leg of the trip prior to the next charge. It will be a good comparison to the car's estimate.

Building on Skyking’s point tracking your mi/kWh is a great way to correlate predicted and actual range.

Curious if you see something like this in your i5’s. In my G30 540i it usually tells me I have a roughly 400 mile range on a full tank based on my typical mpg. If I’m refilling for a all highway driving the range increases as the highway miles tick off because I’m getting >30mpg at 70-80mph instead of my usual 23-24mpg at mixed city driving. I usually max out at 525-550 mile range actual even if sometimes the remaining range plus miles traveled equals about 600. Does this ever happen on the i5 or other EV’s even if total range is lower?

Yes, it definitely adjusts to assumptions around terrain, driving style, speed etc.

I tend to favor looking at my average miles/kWh number (basically the equivalent to mpg) and multiply by the usable battery capacity (81.2 kWh) to get range. I have been averaging out 3.4mi/kWh for the last few months which gives me 276miles, even though my car claims 300miles or more when I charge to 70-80% (by extrapolation).

Does it ever go up as I described, i.e. miles traveled on the charge plus remaining range is greater than the initial range shown or is the initial range always the maximum it will be?

Yes - I have seen the range adjust upwards.

I've recently returned from a long road-trip in an i5: Pacific NW -> LA -> Tucson -> Austin (eclipse!!) -> New Mexico -> Moab -> home. The car's predicted mileage range was practically useless. I saw 100% = 202 miles and 93% = 406 miles. The prediction seemed to be heavily influenced by recent elevation changes, rather than mapped future elevation changes.
Generally love the car. My last car was a 530e, and I had a Tesla S before that. Only major annoyances on this road trip were spotty CarPlay connections and Electrify America. BMW should be embarrassed by its partnership with such a third-rate company. It's not just that many chargers were out of service, it's also that plug and play only worked about half the time and the other billing approaches sometimes didn't work at all.
And, though I feel a bit like Woody Allen for saying it, there aren't nearly enough EA chargers.
(From Annie Hall: "“There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly.”")

I charged to 100% last night because I have a long drive to the airport to pick up my brother. Could be traffic on the way back, so I wanted to be at max. My car reads 254, but it was about 40 degrees when charging.
