Wow, not carrying my keyfob with me is definitely scary. But I suppose that even if something happened to the phone I'd still have the physical digital key in my wallet as a backup. I may need a xanax but it does make sense to take the keyfob (which is way too huge to begin with) off the keychain and enter the brave new world of 2024 technology. Quick question though. If you need to give your car to a valet to park, how would that work?

Put the car in valet mode (locks out your personal information, etc.) and give them the key card. I think that's the key you mean when you say the "physical digital key."

Count me in for the meet up. Lets get BKLYN in on it also. We have several different 5 models to compare and enjoy.

The phone as a key is really simple Doc. One bad aspect of having the phone and the key together at the same time is if you actually forget your key some place you will not know until you look for it. I had the phone and the fob with me a few days ago to run some errands for the wife and knock out a dentist appointment. Last stop was Costco and I went to look for my fob and realized I no longer had it. Searched car and called several stores and no luck. Took a second look in car and found it between the driver seat and center console. I no longer take the key. I take my phone and key card is always in my wallet for backup.

If you need a locked space for valet service then you can set up the trunk to be locked when car is in valet mode. No way to open trunk when car is in valet mode with out a code to exit the mode.

I'd love that. So much to learn and discuss. It would be great to meet up and geek out. I'm free this sunday if we could make that work. Maybe a diner somewhere in Nassau Co. would be convenient but I am happy to meet up pretty much anywhere that's convenient. I hope Bklyn sees this and any other local forum folks who live in the area. Let me know.

BTW, it seems like dealerships love to overinflate tires. Mine were about 3 psi over the recommended pressure but I took care of that this morning and all four tires are now spot on.

In the process of buying my son a house in Buffalo right now so my time is limited. April will be best time for me to get away. Would have loved to go on a road trip with my new BMW but instead I will be driving to Buffalo for the closing in a UHaul 20 foot box truck. Not exactly the same kind of luxury

Dealership had my front tires inflated to the rear tire psi and vise versa. Fixed at Costco and had them inflated with nitrogen.

If/when you local guys get together, be sure to park side by side somewhere and get some pics of the cars lined up. If you want to put your mugs in there somewhere too, that would be fun. Remember, us forum users love pictures!

Hard to imagine how anyone could want or need more power but guess that's a rather subjective issue. The engine is whisper smooth and there's no vibration or harshness at all. I have always hated auto stop-start and my prior G30 540xi had a button beneath the start button that permanently disabled this. So I was prepared to either drive in sport mode all the time or just bite the bullet and try to get used to it. Well, I was amazed with how unobtrusive and fast the ASS works on this car. It's almost instantaneous and you don't even hear or feel it. Would I prefer that it was defeatable? Sure, but this is really just fine.
The ride is buttery smooth. What a pleasure coming from the hard jolts of the RFT's that BMW has used up until now (my car came with Continental Procontact tires). Steering is light but very precise and responsive and braking is linear and easily modulated.
The technology and customization avaliable for this car is almost unimaginable. It's very, very complex and I'm going to guess it'll take me at least a month of tinkering and diving into all it can do to even begin to get comfortable with all it offers. But I like this kind of thing and look forward to what is sure to be a steep learning curve.
The B&W audio sounds great even though I haven't had chance to really put it through its paces yet.
The Veganza seats are significantly more comfortable than the Dakota leather seats in my G30 (both have the luxury seating package). Soft and supple with great support. Haven't found the perfect settings yet to store, but that'll come in the next couple of days.
So just some initial impressions which I'll update as I get more familiar with this really amazing car.
Congratulations! She’s a beauty, Doc! I can’t wait to hear more.

My 540ix arrives tomorrow at the dealership.

Thanks for the pro tip about Costco, especially the nitrogen.

Never fails to amaze me when a dealership gets wheel bolt torque or tire pressure wrong. I’ve had a portable air compressor in my garage for about 15 years, currently using a Craftsman pancake compressor bought from Sears before they all closed. So easy to keep the tires properly inflated on all our vehicles, no driving around to find pay for air. Highly recommended.

A couple of nitpicks.
* There's a shockingly limited amount of interior storage space in the doors. In my G30 the lower door compartments allowed me to fit in a small travel umbrella, a cylindrical tissue holder and a couple of other small items. This car is extremely large yet there's almost no interior storage space for items you'd like to have within arm's reach. Audi and M-B utilize interior space much more efficiently and intelligently.

*There are two nice storage areas under the trunk floor in front of the donut spare. That's a good thing. So the trunk carpet goes edge to edge and seems to be held in place with velcro. Still, so far, so good. But there's no tab or other easy way to pull the floor of the carpet up to gain access to those storage areas! Huh??? C'mon BMW these are really obvious oversights that could have been easily rectified in the design phase of this otherwise excellent car.

I just don't get these JV level mistakes. They're so obvious and so easy to fix and yet, there they are....

BMW seems to be able to get the "big stuff" right, but then drops the ball with stuff like this.

I almost feel like they've taken minimalism and maybe even de-contenting too far in this version, in an effort to be "modern" and compete with folks like Tesla -- and for obvious cost-savings measures. I think when you're getting into the 5 series and above, you should not be cost-cutting on stupid things that literally cost them $1 per unit.

Is the spare tire optional or standard on the G60? It was optional on the G30 so the carpeted insert that held the spare had finger indents by the trunk latch so you could easily lift the floor. The trunk floor is the same whether you had the spare or not because you could remove the spare and insert that holds it and replace the floor to regain about 3 inches of trunk height. A bit shocking they didn’t copy that.

I'm going to carefully check later when I go out but, as far as I can tell there's no easy way to lift up that floor panel to get to the spare and those two storage compartments.
The donut spare is now standard equipment now that they've done away with RFT's.

I guess I’m weird. I don’t store anything in my car, except LaaLaa. Glove box has registration, manual, eye glass cleaner , hand lotion. Nothing in the doors or trunk. Even the center console is empty.

Yup. I brought this to the attention of my CA and he said that the spare tire option is not currently an option yet the bmwusa website lists the mobility kit as an option and then, under "important information" goes on to say that "taking this deletes" the donut spare. I'm going to verify this with the genius line on Monday and see what they say. Either way it's disappointing that this wasn't discussed with me at the time I was placing my order.

Interesting. I did get a spare so I went back to look at the order. I never specified mobility kit as an option but the order sheet says:

300 Space-saver spare

I was shocked about the lack of storage as well. Especially in the center armrest.
Not to get political or go off the rails here. But I personally like to carry a side arm in some circumstances and in my previous car would store it in the armrest when driving. Can’t do that with this car.
