I can imagine most are thrilled as it progresses from dot to dot on the 'my garage' section of the bmwusa website. So here's the thing; the sequence is 'dispatched from factory' -> at port (where it sits and waits to get on a ship...a process that can take from several days to as long as a month). Finally when it gets on a ship the my garage tracker goes forward one dot to "in transit." At this point, the genius line can tell you what ship it's on and you can begin tracking it as it slowly traverses the Atlantic. After what seems like an eternity, but is really only 10 days or so, it arrives at the port in America. Now this is where things get interesting. Now when you go to the my garage page your car appears to have gone back one dot and is now (again) listed as "at port." So at that point I thought, "OMG, did they ship my car back to Bremerhaven" (LOL)? No, it seems it they just want you to be aware that it's arrived at the destination port. Might have been nice if BMW added another dot, one that said "arrived at destination port" but, hey, that would make way too much sense.

Ah, the myriad joys of BMW purchases.

Thanks! Great to know. My car is finally in transit. Currently in the North East Atlantic, expected to arrive in Panama around March 2nd.

I have a very basic build on my order... for some odd reason, the production date has been moved back and for 3 times already. Perhaps it was partly due to having changed my mind about the color twice. On top of that my salesman became a saleswoman.(the original salesman quit and went to work for the auto group's Porsche dealership) Anyway... latest word from the saleswoman is that production will start in the first week of March.

Having gone thorough the ship tracking fun almost a year ago with my X1, I can't wait to do it all over again once my 530i arrives at port.

My dealer actually got two 99% identical build/color that they tried to offer me at bigger discounts.(both were customer cancelled 530i) However, I declined because I preferred to have mine built from scratch just the way I want it, even if the difference is less than 1%(wood trim).
