i5 M60 poor wiper performance
#1 I did a forum search and did not find any threads about wipers
#2 I am pretty disappointed with the wipers on my new i5. They do move the water off the windshield (good), but they streak, shudder and make tons of noise (bad). My glass was pristine clean, and I even cleaned both wiper blades with a lint free cloth and rubbing alcohol. This did make the shuddering and noise temporarily better, but sadly not for long. I traded my iX for this i5, and the iX blades were silent, smooth and perfect. Has anyone else experienced less than stellar wiper blades on their new 5 Series? You might have noticed, that we have been hammered here with torrential rain in California!! |

Mine haven’t had any issues. No noise and seem to do a good job. I’m in a 540ix but would imagine that’s all the same.

Sounds like something on there.
I know you’ve cleaned it , wondering if there might be a wax or similar still there? Have you tried washing up liquid?(keep away from the paintwork) |

Mine have been working fine. I did have a windshield treatment added when I had my ceramic coating done so perhaps that is helping. No issues with snow and rain so far but nothing like you are getting in California.

My wiper blades work perfectly. Mine has been through some very heavy rain and a snow storms with road salt kicked up on windshield and has worked well. Also had car including glass ceramic coated, but had no issues before that either.

I've owned mine since 27 Oct 23 and have yet to use them. Not a helpful comment whatsoever, I know.

I live in Seattle where it rains almost every day. My wipers work great. No issues.

Same as the others - no issues with my wipers - maybe see if the dealer can swap out some new blades

Thanks for all the replies.
Last night I cleaned the windshield glass 3x with rainX and a high quality, lint free microfiber (made for glass) towel and then cleaned the blades with rainX glass cleaner....and my wipers were not streaky at all today whilst in use, and the shuddering noise was much less (almost gone). If the noise or performance worsens again, I will swing by the dealer. Thanks again! |

Bring car to dealership and have them check if your wiper arm is a little twisted off center. This is the major cause for the jumping and squeaking.

I will say though, most of the twisted, bent or off center wiper arms look like older and not "high end" cars. |

Deutch100: In reading the owners manual, I believe I saw something in there saying not to clean or put anything on the wiper blades. You obviously have a unique problem compared to all other respondents, I'd ask the dealership to throw a replacement set of inserts on.

A related question.
Is there any water repellent coating on new BMW windshield? The glass works so well in the rain. Will it fade away over time? How should I take care of or clean the windshield glass? Should I use oil remover regularly? |
