Dealer Protection Package: Worth it?
Wanted to get some opinions on if the protection package my dealer is offering is worth it. For $990, I am getting the following:
- Door edge guards - Door cup guards - Window tint Is this worth getting? |

I would suggest getting a quote from a local tint company before deciding whether it's worth it or not. I think the tint would be the most expensive part of that package. I'm suspicious of the door edge guards. Does that mean you're going to have a conspicuous black rubber or plastic strip along the side of the door? You wouldn't want to uglify your new car! :-)
I have found this website and their YouTube channel very useful in educating me about the process of buying a new car these days. This particular link refers to the services and/or fees that dealerships may add to the price of a vehicle and suggests how to treat them. https://caredge.com/guides/understan...ar-dealer-fees In general, if it's actually something you're interested in, it's fine to buy it from the dealer but shop around for it beforehand so you know if you're getting a good deal or not.

Those are almost never worth it. It's a profit center for dealers with little cost and high mark up. Like buying a TV and getting expensive HDMI cables, or a restaurant charging high amounts for sodas. The main good is so thin on margin, they can do some add ons that are pure profit.

I had my tint, PPF, and ceramic coating done off site, not at the dealership but a local guy that does great work. I did get a deal on the tire and rim package so took that.

Door edge guards are a waste unless you park close to a concrete wall and are careless opening your door. Cup guards…??? If you want window tint, make a call or two to cross shop a bit. Dealer add ons are typically always overpriced. At least they’re not trying to sell you nitrogen for your tires…which is the biggest rip off there is……

Told my dealer not to touch the car. Took it strait to a detailer and had a paint correction and ceramic coat inside and out done. Paint was a mess from the transport. Not going to get any tints done. Only 2 things I bought extra were the extended warranty and ultimate care 4+.
