Precondition via My BMW app question
Since our mornings have been "California cold", I use the My BMW app to set a departure time at night, for my morning commute. Of course it's nice getting in a warm & comfortable car, but it really boosts range.
Are we only able to set a departure time for the next day? I knew this morning (Tuesday) I was going to leave the house at Noon, so around 8am this morning I wanted to set up a precondition time. My BMW app would only offer me times for tomorrow, Weds. Is there no way to set a precondition/departure time for the day of, say a few hours ahead? Thanks. |

Based on my kids' school schedule, I leave at the same approx. time on weekdays, except Wednesday, and I don't have a scheduled departure on weekends. With the app, I was able to schedule it so that it preconditions at those times, including the different time on Wednesdays.
There is a section fo "Next Departure Time Only" which seems to be what you're asking about - you would be able to set your next departure as desired. But maybe I'm missing the question. And just to make sure we're on the same page, are you using the app (as opposed to setting it in the car). |

I think I understand the question - in the climate settings the OP is correct - you can only set precondition around times for the next day or set up the weekly schedule as superchuck notes.
I think there’s a workaround though - if you go set the option to pre-condition for departure times to “on”, then pre-conditioning will happen for any pre-set departure time. You would then go to the map icon at the bottom of the app and put in a destination and and send a route to your car. When that’s sent and you click on the destination you get a bunch of options, if you scroll down you’ll find a “departure time” option which allows you to set for today and any other day - I plugged in my local BMW dealer as an example: Last edited by RichardInCA; 01-24-2024 at 11:08 PM.. |

When I first got my X1 back in April, I did schedule it to run around 7AM automatically. It worked great because the X1 was parked in the driveway at the time. The car that I was getting rid of was still in one of the spots inside the garage. Once that space freed up, I forgot to delete the pre-condition schedule.
Doesn't sound like a big deal, right? WRONG!!! I could have very well caused severe injury or worse to my entire family. One morning, it started up while inside the garage. I only noticed it after a while when a CO detecor near the laundry room went off. I was confused, as I didn't have any gas appliances in my house at all. Then I heard the X1 engine running and I instantly realized what had happened. I opened the garage door to let fresh air in and turned off the X1 engine as fast as I could. That was when I realized the app or the car had no way of disabling remote start or pre-conditioning with the car inside a closed garage. My new 530i will be parked in the garage once it arrives. I'm just hoping I don't make the same mistake again and park it inside the garage(and forgetting to turn off pre-condioning schedule) Or does anybody know of a way to link the BMW app's pre-conditioning schedule with the garage open/close app on my phone? (so when the garage door will automatically open whenever pre-conditioining starts?, in case I forget?) Thank! |
