We drive very differently. Like BimmerDKT said, sliding is life. I slide my X5M around, and it's a hoot and holler. Nothing better than taking some unsuspecting vict..er passengers late at night and giving them a lil' sideways action. The juxtaposition of a house-sized SUV sliding and maneuvering the way it does is hilarious.

I did not experience the M5 CS being hard to slide though, it was very controllable and approachable, but not clinical like the 992 turbo S I had. The 992 turbo S was the most boring, tame, lame car I've ever had. It was brutally fast sure, but I could just be asleep at the wheel sideways going 120 and it'd figure it out.

I maintain if the CT5 came in AWD, I'd be all over it and it would be BRUTALLY fast with a 2650 on top and other go fast goodies. Can you even imagine a 950-1000rwhp AWD sedan? Good lord just typing that does it for me. But no of course not, RWD only.

Yea, I don't burn through tires like a madman because they are not free. I do also wish the BW also came in AWD

This is also why AWD sleds are not on my watch list. AWD tends to push hard on corner entry waiting for the front diff to catch up. They even talk about how BMW tries to manage this in the M5 CS in the Hagerty vid that I linked above. Cool party trick, but robs the fun out of getting the rear end to come around under control.

Welp ... clutch finally gave up this morning. I'm off ordering parts.
ok youtube star

You are sliding down the highway on your commute, sure.

Good day

My commute is a bunch of backroads with minimal traffic, after dropping off the kids at school. So yes, I'm sliding around on u-turns under the highways on my commute and into the cross roads heading into work. I'm not getting Chris Harris levels of long, tire-smoking drifts (you need a track to get that kind of speed with space for runoff) ... but long enough to run it out to redline and put a smile on my face.

Getting sideways is a skill. You should give in a try.

I’ll try to add a perspective I haven’t seen in the thread. I currently have an ESS supercharged E90 M3 (6MT, roughly 635 bhp) and I’ve also owned “high torque” GM cars (notably a moderately modified C6 Z06). My opinion is almost purely based on physics (can’t comment on the woman). When we discuss supercharged E9X M3s, the centrifugal vs. Harrop debate often comes up. You’ll often see negatives about centrifugal setups but frankly there is one positive - the lower torque significantly benefits traction. You just don’t need to feather the throttle like you do in a HO or SC LS engine car. You nail it and it goes, like the S65 and chassis were made for it. If you look at our fast list, based on the quickest 60-130 mph time for an ESS 6MT E9X M3, the math works out to a quarter mile time of about 11.0 s at 130 mph. For comparison, the latest C&D long term test of the CT5V BW (and they beat the shit out of loaners) put it at 11.7 s at 124 mph. Different cars, different drivers, different conditions. But I’m willing to bet the CT5V BW’s weight and traction issues played a significant role. My old Z06 on PS4S tires used to scare the shit out of me in temperatures lower than 50 deg. My M3 on the same tires is very composed in the same conditions, similarly worthless in poor conditions, but no fear of going sideways into the woods at 80 mph.

So all that being said, you will never get back what you put into the M3. I’m probably up to a total of about $110k (yeah insane) but I went all out and even replaced all valve springs for added reliability. If I sold it tomorrow I’d be lucky to get $50k. The Cadillac may depreciate but I’d doubt it would depreciate 55% in 1-2 years. Food for thought. Both cars offer incredible fun!

Right but why push the M3 to 600HP? At that point sure go BW or whatever but for street driving it's borderline stupid.

IMHO the M3 is a special car, spend $10K on it to really clean it up and drive it till it fucking does.

I have never complained about having too much power — only too little. A stock M3 needs some waking up in my opinion — they typically make about 340 rwhp. I did a lot of NA mods on mine but got to the point where I was going forced induction if I kept it, and my thought coming from about 400 rwhp was that about 550 rwhp would be good.

Each to his own, I have 385HP on a 3200lb car and I cannot use anywhere near it's potential on the street.

So i wring out 3rd gear and I am at 140kmh in no time which is lose your license territory. Wwhat i'd do with near double the horse power is beyond me. If it was free, sure, but it isn't. Literally no idea where and how you use that power on the street.

140 kmh is 87 mph. If that is fast to you, I don’t know what to say.

Try joining or starting a 24 hours of lemons team or look for rental seats fpr the events. 700-900 is average price for an arrive and drive at 24hrs of lemons. And if that not enough speed maybe a Chump or AER seat.

Race car these days going at it alone is a loose loose situation and no more Naked is even worse.

I am quite capable of driving considerably faster, but again, we're not talking track car here. On public roads, in this province, get past 140 and you can lose your vehicle.

Appreciate the perspective. I’m not terribly concerned about 1/4 mile times and/or acceleration. At anything above 500rwhp, traction is an issue unless you have weight in the rear (ala 911), or AWD. I’ve been around a lot of big HP cars in my younger days, and straight line speed gets old real fast. Once you’ve had your face torn off in a 2JZ running over 2bar of boost and nitrous, everything else starts to pale in comparison. The BW is really just the Goldilocks compromise car … does everything really well, doesn’t suck at anything (well, gas mileage). But it’s gawdawfully expensive for a GM spec interior/paint/fit & finish.

I’m putting in the 10k in parts to the E90 to get it up to spec for a while. I fell into the stroker rabbit hole for a couple days, and I’ve convinced myself that it’s 40-50k well spent … but if I’m being honest, hopefully the BW’s will depreciate down into the 70-80k range in a couple years, and I’ll just pick one up and keep the E90 for fun.

Lemons is a riot, but I fear that my CMC/Honda Challenge racing history won’t make me a lot of friends in the paddock. Honestly, I’ve been offered a seat a few times, but the kids’ schedules these days just don’t leave much free time. I’m having a hard time just setting aside time to do my own work on the E90.

Anyhow, parts are showing up, so time to get to work.
