The over caffeinated comment was, I believe, an indirect shot at me for some reason. Maybe? Or maybe I've just had too many coffees this morning....

The lasers are one of the signature elements of the car, they’re just fantastic. I’m keeping my ‘22 manual G80 long term so the LCI doesn’t impact me but I’m curious as to why they’d change them.

There are opportunities for a grille change with the LCI that would look great and differentiate LCI without major retooling.
Cost. And the fact that the latest Matrix LED tech is just as good.

Not many people are changing to the ADRO front bumper, though. A lot of folks, myself included, change to the CSL grill or GT-style grill; the shape of the grill openings is the same, but the insert going in is different. I've seen it a million times on other vehicles. Look at the Audi crowd putting RS grills on their base A4/5s... back in the day, Honda owners were putting mesh grills in to replace the stock grill with the Honda emblem. Same with mustang owners. Hell, even with BMWs, I see E9x cars with double slat F8x grills or diamond-like patterns the earlier G20 M340i used to get. None of this is new.

The most comparable car I can think of is the newer-gen V8 vantage where a company came out with an aftermarket front bumper to reduce the size of its grill. Some bought it but it wasn't universally praised either. Same with the G80 and stock vs something like ADRO.

Although anecdotally i do see the bitching happen at a far greater frequency towards the new product as opposed to someone getting the new product and then putting down the pre-LCI. My point is, there exists a world where you can appreciate both while still preferring one over the other.
If I could “appreciate” this post a hundred times over, I would.

Whether LCI or pre-LCI, it’s still a G80. They both look sharp to me. I think I’m partial to the pre-LCI headlights at the moment, but I easily see the snake-eye headlights growing on me. (They already are.)

This isn’t a full remodel, so IMO, there’s no polarizing differences. I think they did a great job on the LCI though. Subtle changes, serving the purpose of…an LCI.

Will I cancel my order for it? Absolutely not. I wouldn’t wait a whole year for this, knowing that’s one less year I get with the G80 before the next gen remodel. It’s the same car with different headlights and maybe a tune?

If I was in the market for one NEXT year though, would I want the LCI? Absolutely.

Seize the moment whenever you can especially when the G80 may be the last all-ICE M3. Enjoy it while you can!

Not true. Engines can have a power fluctuation up to 5% and nobody will actually care if it is 10% instead, unless the engine exceeds emissions limitations and the advertised speed.
Engine/car is certified for a certain emissions output and a certain speed. Power fluctuations over 5% are acceptable if the certified base engine hasn't been modified and if the software adaptations are within the legal (emissions) limits.

Yes, we all know that those S58 engines in the M3 run pretty well but I have to say that I doubt those claims that the engines produce much more than the 5% I mentioned. Sometimes it is just dyno error.

Those experienced with M3 dyno testing usually see a 20-30 hp power increase compared to what BMW is claiming. This is totally acceptable.

Btw: In Germany, the TÜV is only the authority to verify the cars. The authority to certify the cars is the KBA.

Regarding the laser lights: Apparently it isn't necessary anymore, BMW can achieve the same light "quality" with Matrix LED lights and it is possible to make thinner/smaller front lights without the laser lights.

The more interesting part about the facelift (LCI) should be the weight: Not sure if some of you noticed but the last "minor" facelift made all the 3 series models (with the exception of the M3) heavier (by up to 50 kg). People barely noticed.
I guess BMW is trying to save money...

I just went through this with my Cayenne. I knew a refresh was coming, it was supposed to be for the 2023 MY and that was perfect timing for us. But supply chain / automotive industry delayed it. And it was very difficult to even get an allocation for a 2023 through the first half of 2022! I pretty much knew what to expect for the '24 refresh but I decided FOMO wasn't strong enough and we were just going to order one when we got an allocation. Porsche did us a favor with the Platinum Edition which bundled a bunch of items we would have 100% ordered anyway and a few exclusive touches like badge colors, special wheel color, etc. which also saved about $2,500 and that was the cherry on top.

As it turns out, seeing the '24 refresh in person, there are some things I like but other things I really don't. They took our interior color away, and while some parts of the interior are an upgrade, some are change for obvious cost cutting. Moreover, only the base models have been able to be delivered, as there are issues with certifying the S (coming this fall, they are sitting at port or on dealer lots) and the Hybrids have been pushed back to January at the latest. So I would have had to wait a year and not been as satisfied.

If you are happy with the current G80, there is nothing in this LCI to really make you wait, IMO. Certainly on the outside. iDrive 8.5 or 9.0, maybe? Who knows.

Yeah, this is called a message board on the internet. People are allowed to have opinions, and there will be opinions that you are going to disagree with. I know you're Canadian, but the Stalin crap is getting old.

I'm thinking more GTS territory. It's not so much about what's the best driving car I can get... it's personal bucket list dream cars. I've had 3 since my childhood... m3, 911, a mid engined ferrari. M2 might be a great driving car, but it's not a dream of mine.
