Best MP3 player for the guy on a budget?
Need help finding an MP3 player that will be good for me when I work out (so not too big) and that can also allow me to listen to music in my car through the stereo (though I am sure I will have to by some accessory for this) and also has a decent bit of memory for a relatively low price.
Any comments on MP3 players as well as links are definitely appreciated ! |

id look for a used iPod nano. it will be cheaper than a new shuffle most likely, you can select what you want to hear because it has a screen, and its an iPod.

$60 for a 8gb Sansa w/video and color screen. Best deal in my opinion. Yeh, it's a refurb, but it's refreshed by the mfr so it's still better than getting someone else's used gear. |

This is probably what I am going to get - for $60 I can't go wrong. Is www.Buy.com a pretty safe shopping site? |

buy.com is reputable, I've bought a lot of stuff from them before. However, do know that you can't return the item b/c it's a refurb.
I recommend you buy an extended warranty from www.squaretrade.com . It's only $6 for a 2 year warranty (use coupon code FIFTYOFF) and Squaretrade will warranty refurbed products & is good w/paying out claims. You can't go wrong in my opinion. Hope this helped! |

Best MP3 players are still Apple ipods because of the superior sound quality. Buy the best you can afford, if you can't, just save your money so you can buy the real thing.

Not necessarily true. Creative makes really good products (i.e. Zen). BUT remember if you go with an iPod you're pretty much stuck for life. When you get used to buying songs off of iTunes it'll be a hassle to convert them back to mp3 later on--yes i know about the cd burning thing--still a pain in the arse..

used nano. i have a first gen nano that still works like a charm.
had it pretty much always connected in my car, which killed the battery after 2+ years. bought a new battery for $12, installed it myself and not get 16 hours of playback. Charged it and went to Russia. it was on through the entire trip there, which took 16 hours. when i got off the plane it still had about 40 min of battery life left!

I have a 30 gig Zen Vision M which is great, they make good players though I think that one on AMZN is probably bigger than the Sansa. Ppl who have an "anything but an ipod sucks" mentality generally haven't used other players much. Ipods have a nice interface w/the click wheel etc., but sound quality on some of the non-AAPL players mentioned here are just as good. IMO it's sort of a waste to blow that much $ on an ipod when a lot of other players do the same for less. Plus, I hate Itunes/Zune/etc. which you're forced to use...drag and drop is so much faster/easier IMO.
