I only buy airplane tickets with AMEX.
They paid for my hotel/rental car/dinner when my flight was cancelled due to bad weather and had to stay in dallas for one night.

where's your credit at?
if i remember you're pretty young.
if you're credit is on the upper end of good go for the blue cash.
everything before 6k is 1% back and everything after 6k is 5% back.
just swipe for groceries, eating out, gas, everything.
gas alone will probably be around 6k so its worth it to get over the blue rewards.

Do they really offer the buy one get one for domestic coach flights? How often can you use this feature?

You should of had a CC about 5 years ago and started to build your credit with small purchases. My parents had me get my first CC when I was 14 for emergencies and to buy some clothes. Now I'm 25 with a 700+ credit score.

Anyways your a little late in the game. You might not be able to get an Amex right away they tend to be selective and with just paying rent and a cell phone that doesn't show much. You should prolly start out with a Capital One rewards card, seems to be a nice second to Amex. Don't go card crazy but purchase all the normal things you would on your debit card like food, clothes, bar tabs. You know small $100-200 purchases. Then pay them off in a day or 2 so it's essentially like you used your debit. Some people suggest carrying a balance some times to help raise your credit but I don't necessarily buy that. Wouldn't you get just as good credit by paying in full and on time??

i have a no preset limit amex gold card. needs to be paid in full at the end of each month. i like it, it keeps me out of debt that way.

They do offer the buy one get one free option. Every platinum card get 4 free tickets per year. I guess its a good deal if you travel alot. You also get hotel room upgrades as well.

I've been using my AMEX almost exclusively for the last 6 years and I have been very pleased. They really are better than a credit card and their travel services, etc. are a real bonus. Their points are real, and accrue on just about everything.

The Gold Card isn't any sort of "Exclusive" privilege any more, nor is the Platinum card. Though if you are traveling a lot the Platinum card has some real useful benefits and perks like 24/7 concierge, travel help, and membership to just about all major Airlines 1st class lounges. yadda yadda...

After 6 years and 500K something points I can say that AMEX is a top flight card with a lot of useful perks.

So long as you are traveling a lot at least monthly anyway, I can see the Platinum Card being a real bonus. Like you I get their offer just about monthly and I just chuckle... $750 annually for myself and second card just isn't all that appealing when I'm not traveling for business anymore.

But yeah lots of traveling the Platinum card makes sense...

Then of course we can talk about the Dum-DUM-DUM THE CENTURIAN CARD

I only have to pay $450 for a first card and $175 for the second (up to 2 additional cards). How come you have to pay $750 for 2 cards?

Qualifying members are allowed flex pay. I have it on my gold card.

Damn, at 23 I received my Centurion AMEX, but then again I skipped college.
Good luck with the C.C. AMEX doesn't build your credit just to let you know but it helps you big time with buyers protection etc.. Keep the visa But AMEX is always good to have also (it you use all it's features).

Definatly. They are pregy tough on approving people these days because of the economy and all the scammes going on due to it. Applyfor it online, only takes about 24hrs or less if you get approved and you can check it online.
