Going to be chicago, what to do?
I'm going to be in chicago over the weekend. Is there any good summer events to go to? Or fun things that I should do?

tons going on this weekend
check out old st. pat's block party, it is always a good time $35 for entrance and 5 drinks summer on southport festival - southport is a great area as well for restaurants and bars unfortunately the cubs are out of town this weekend, but the whitesox are playing kansas city friday through sunday. whitesox tickets are cheap and you get a baseball game and an ass-kicking all in the same afternoon also, check this site for other things going on: http://chicago.metromix.com/ Cheers

navy pier is a bit overrated, it is pretty tourist-laden, although you do get some good views of the skyline. there is an imax theater there that is playing the dark knight every 3 hours, but I think it is completely sold out until 10pm on sunday.

one final thought, you can take a chicago architecture boat tour, it goes into a lot of the history of the city itself, not just studying architecture. I have lived in the city for 7 years and often take out of town visitors on this tour, it is pretty awesome.
I have gone on multiple tours run by the chicago architecture foundation http://www.architecture.org/tours.aspx

Only been to Chicago for 8 hours, but loved every minute.
You can't go to Chi-town and not grab a deep dish pizza. |

If you like clubs/house music try Le Passage and Crobar. Depending on where you are stay, the concierge will usually have free passes to give out - if not, just stop in one of the hotels on Michigan like the Omni or the Drake and tell their concierge that you are a guest of the hotel and want some passes to some clubs - always works. Def try and do an architecture boat tour. Also, stop by the John Handcock building on Michigan Ave and have some drinks at the Signature Room on the 95th floor - it's awesome.

When there on business, I usually bring my laptop to Sullivan's or Ditka's upstairs bars, and enjoy cigars while getting some work done.
Or go out drinking with friends. Best brew pub: Goose Island Best beer selection: Map Room If alone, go get great sushi. Art Institute is always a good few hours well spent. Walk up and down Michigan Ave, buy some stuff or just exercise. I've heard great things about the boat architecture tour, but always too busy to try it. |
