Changing out the hard drive on your notebook is not the easy task you think it is. |

I have a black passport 250gb. Running music off it right now. It is simply awesome. Especially since it doesn't require an external power source like some of the bigger external HDDs do. Its just basicly a flash drive on steroids.
Gets my recommendation.

And yes, 3.5" is for internal desktop harddrives. Laptops and the Passport external listed above are 2.5" HDDs. There are 3.5" externals, and most of them require the extra power I mentioned in my post above, so be careful.

Its a great site, people post amazing deals on a lot of different things mostly tech (best deals are on the main page). You'll see hard drives about once a week. Be prepared to buy right away when you see a good deal, things will sell quick. edit* theres a 160GB external on there right now for $60

+1 Passport
I've been carrying it in my backpack for 5 months, no problems with it (yet). External hard drives have a tendency to fail - never put any files on 1 you don't have backed up elsewhere, or can't live without. They all fail eventually. If you don't need something portable, buy a desktop PC internal SATA drive, and buy an enclosure for it (thus using it as an external HD). Less than $100. |
