Porsche cancels Red Bull F1 partnership

https://www.gpfans.com/en/f1-news/91...f1-entry-plan/

ahead of the Italian weekend at Monza, Porsche confirmed it is no longer pursuing a partnership with the championship-leading team.

“In the course of the last few months, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and Red Bull GmbH have held talks on the possibility of Porsche’s entry into Formula 1,” said Porsche in a statement.

“The two companies have now jointly come to the conclusion that these talks will no longer be continued.

Hope they can find another partner. Ultimately glad though they are not partnering with RB since I cant root for Max.

2026 is still a long time away.
I wouln't be surprised that in that mean time they will probe a potential partnership again.
RB is looking for a partner, they are the most likely candidate for huge succes....I bet Porsche wouldn't like them to team up to one of their major competitors like BMW.
BMW has said not to be interested anymore in F1, but who knows what they feel next year or the year after that.
F1 is gaining huge popularity in the US, and that happens to be also one of the most important markets for BMW (as for Porsche)

I can't see BMW getting into F1 anytime soon, especially with the current engine architecture.

Problem they have now is there is no other team to partner with unless they drop monumental money. The works teams will not want a Porsche badge on their cars and McLaren are a direct competitor to Porsche's top line sports cars. Audi are taking Sauber, that leaves who exactly? To add to the complication, VW see this as two separate entrants, not one (effectively). The whole ownership structure and balance of power within VW and the piesch family is extremely complicated and leads to this type of jumbled mess. It's not a straight line of VW owning Porsche etc like say GM or Ford when they had 25 brands, it's really, really muddy.

Why enter F1 at this point? Monumental costs for only marketing. None of the technologies will trickle down. Porsche doesn't exactly need the boost since they are selling everything they make.

Right now is the hottest time to join F1, especially with the rise in popularity. Audi is already in. Of course the tech will trickle down, the 2026 engine regs triple the battery output.

Porsche just has a remarkable ego and thought Red Bull needed them and they don't, that's why they told Porsche to take a hike. They're going to keep winning without Porsche. Honda has a way stronger reputation than Porsche does in Formula 1.

Btw, I say this as someone who would have loved to see Red Bull - Porsche.

Seems like Formula E is where it would be at, though.

I think the future is more likely to be sustainable fuel + hybrid than 100% EV.

Formula E is terribly boring, the cars are insanely heavy and battery energy density is decades away from being a feasible option for the whole world to abandon ICE completely.
