Mustang Mach 1 was impressive! I wonder how much of that has to do with the 305 tires it's running.

M240i weighs more than a M340i? Makes it nearly pointless to get a 2 series.

It didn’t beat M4 GTS. It beat M4 CS by 7ish seconds on a repaved ring and better rubber
Incorrect.
Sport Auto with same driver and same tires got 7:37 with M4 GTS and 7:42 with M4 CS, 7:30 with G82 M4.

It's not even close, and this is a "base" G82, not even a CS or CSL.

I suggest you look up the times posted in the magazine and their YouTube channel.

Is that really the excuse you're going with? Pavement? We're there also bunnies on the track during the M4 CS run?

Official ring time for the GTS is 7:28. And not the same rubber - old gen cup 2 vs new gen cup 2. Repaves matter because that equals a couple seconds of lap times.

No excuses, just stating two important factors to any lap time plus I’m not the one who is disappointed by G8Xs performance here. Quite the opposite actually

The 7:28 time by M4 GTS is done by BMW factory driver. These drivers are significantly faster than magazine drivers because they test and drive these cars for months and months and directly involved in the development of the cars.
Magazine drivers get the car usually for a few hours or maybe a day and simply can't extract everything out of the car in that short amount of time compared to a factory racing driver who drives the crap out of it everyday

The time I presented was with same driver to minimize driver skill being a significant factor.

None of this means the F8x CS is not a great car!

No, the M240i xDrive weights more than the RWD M340i, but less than M340i xDrive (about 100 lbs).

RWD M340i - Curb Wt - 3876
M240xi - Curb Wt - 3871

At least according to the US specifications. I think you could say they weight the same when the difference is a breifcase full on junk, but the 240 does not weigh more.

Yes, but the kerb weight includes full fuel and the G42's tank is smaller (about 11 lbs less fuel), with the same amount of fuel the M340i would be slightly lighter
Also, the M340i has the 48v hybrid module, the early M340i's without it were even lighter (3849 lbs).
But yes, they basically weight the same.
Of course, xDrive vs xDrive the G20 will always be heavier.

Panamera Turbo S toasted the M5 CS

Surprised to see that.

My biggest surprise was that the M240ix was slower than the N55 M2s.

You can't compare times with so much difference in tires, the M240i ran on Pirelli runflats 225/255 and its time was only 1.10s slower, on other tracks the M240i with PS4S 245/255 was slightly faster than the OG M2 and tremendously faster than the F22 M240i.

This was also the biggest surprise to me, curious if tires were the main reason. On paper the cs should be faster. I would think the tire setup would be maximized for the car, but I wonder if wider front/rear setup would improve times, also if PS cups were used, although I believe the Pirellis are essentially the same tire. Great video however.

No surprise to me, though the should have used the DCT in the test (also PS4S we not used) and the winning time grows and grows.

No. The talk has been that the G8x is better in just about every way, except that Blackwing has better steering, better road feel, better driver connection to the road, more fun to drive.

What I do find interesting is the road connection and fun to drive factors used to be reasons why BMW's were deemed superior by enthusiasts, but now the shoe is on the other foot. But at least reviewers are being consistent.
