I would choose Sharp for an LCD and Pioneer for Plasma.
I still prefer plasma, but the 65" Sharp Aquos is a piece of art. Just my opinions for what they are worth!

DLP, LCD, Plasma? And what size are you looking for? Do you want to wall mount, or do you have a TV stand? Do you want full 1080p, or is 720p alright for you? What are you going to be plugging into the TV, and with what kind of interfaces, HDMI, component, etc.? Are you also willing to invest in a power conditioner?

I too have been looking for a brand new set. If you want the best tv money can buy around that price range, look no further than the Pioneer Kuro 60 inch. No LCD can touch it.
Review (Smaller sibling) : http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...-32476901.html Pricegrabber ($4-6.5k) : http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/...10FD/st=query/ Coming in a close second is the Panasonic Viera 58 inch. Review : http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...-32317318.html Pricegrabber ($3-3.5k) : http://electronics.pricegrabber.com/...700U/st=query/ You'll be completely satisfied with any of those two sets although I have to give my hat off to the Kuro for the amazing black levels that make any horror movie that much creepier. I personally only go to places like BestBuy and Fry's for physical reference because their prices are insanely overpriced. The benefit of buying from a local brick&mortar is that if the tv breaks down you can take it to them directly. However if you buy online you can potentially save up to $2000+ off the sticker price and that money saved should cover any repairs that pop up. Good luck. |

Plasma > LCD imo. LCD's make good computer monitors, plasmas make good televisions. LCD's aren't bad for small screen TV's either, but stick with plasma for big screens.

I heard plasmas were on the way out...
Read, read, read. Then go watch, watch, watch. Then make a decision, and buy. Good online resources: crutchfield.com avsforum.com (upper left Forums -> Display subforums) for questions about specific models |

Pioneer Kuro is the top of the line for Plasmas.
Panasonic would be my next choice for plasma. For LCDs, Sony or Samsung, can't go wrong with either. I would not get a RPTV, those are on their way out as most manufacturers have ceased production. (Sharp has excellent customer support but they suffer from backlight bleeding and banding too much) If you want even more opinions check out AVS Forums, it's like E90Post for Displays: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=9
