seems like karate is just for show to me...

most of the time he's just spinning that stick and the only attack he has is that stabbing pose he does for about 5 seconds...

definitely useless in real world conditions but that was a nicely executed kata none the less. Kid had attitude and is very focused for such a young age. I'm sure he got high scores for that performance, which is all that matters in those types of tournaments

I don't know about that useless in real world conditions notion.

Would you really want to have to fight that little dude at a bar that has pool tables? He'd clock you 30 times in the face with the short cue before you even know what happened.

+1 he's just putting on a performance. However when it comes down to actually fighting he would straight &^%$ up most people on this board with that stick before you could blink.

first he would need to get a hold of a pool stick that's evenly weighted on both ends like the staff he was using for his performance, highly unlikely cause pool sticks are alot heavier at the handle. Secondly, he would need to move all the pool tables, chairs, people ect out of his way so he could "twirl" the stick to even attempt to hit me 30 times in the face. By that time time the stick would be outta he tiny grip, thrown aside and he would have been knocked the fuck out!

i gave the kid props for his kata, but kata's are not for real world situations. They are merely a set of choreographed moves for shows and scored competitions. Traditional martial arts is great for people to learn some basic moves and to give children structure and teach them discipline, manners, self control and respect. For real world situations you need to work on real world techniques. straight punches/kicks and ground like wrestling/jiu jitsu

Yeah, but can he block all the pool balls you'd throw at him?

Unarmed, black belt or not, I'd still kick his butt and steal his lunch money.

This discussion reminds me of the classic scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark... Indy is in the streets and the crowd spreads apart and there is that big dude with a huge sword twirling it all around, showing off. Indy pulls out the revolver, one shot and it is all over.

LMAO I just pictured myself pegging that kid in the face with pool balls while he's trying to deflect them with a cue stick.

maybe he only needs to hit u once to floor you and even if you probably could take him on, he would reach you first with a stick in his hand. one huge poke in the stomach and bye bye.
