I feel sorry for the OP's cousin. He should of had the common sense to move onto another dealer after the first 10 seconds of conversation. The fact that he kept going back for more astounds me.

With respect to your cousin, why didnt he just pay a little more and get treated with respect instead? If someone was to speak like that to me I wouldn't waste a second breath on him/her. You didnt even have to go to another dealership, just a different salesman.

Wow, I would have walked out of there in a hearbeat, and complained to the manager on my way out!

I got treated very well and my finances were not even questioned when I went and test drove an M Coupe at 23 (and I drove my 2002 Honda Civic to the dealership!). I would be pissed but there is not much else you can do.

I made sure to drive by him (he was standing outside smoking) when I got into my 335 rolled the window down and said - "Yep, we are too poor for a Maserati, I think we will just buy the 650 instead (which is the same price as the Maserati)." Drove down to the BMW dealer and placed an order for the 650.

Moral of the story - its your money, spend it where people would appreciate your custom.

you are right, and thats not what i meant by what i wrote. i always go to dealerships to look at new cars for either myself or my friends and most of the time the sales people never even help us, and if they do, most of the time they do, they are rude and not helpful because they dont think we are serious. thats what bugs me and thats what i meant. even if i say i want to buy, they have this attitude, its just not a nice buying experience. they just sort of give me this look like "what do you want?" type of thing, it pisses me off. so i totally understand what the guy is talking about at the mitsubishi dealership.

same type of thing happened with me when i wanted to look at the new m3. the fool kept telling me that the 335i coupe was in my price range and even had the nerve to ask me if i was serious or not in buying the car because he told me a lot of people have been wasting his time regarding buying the new m3. i told him i was serious and he then finally got up off his ass to show the car. when he showed the car, he was leaning on the car and slapping the roof while he was talking which i found offensive and totally unprofessional. i then told him i wanted to test drive the car because i was serious about buying one and he told me it was for serious customers only and the 335i was a better buy for me, plus he told me the payments were too expensive. i told him i didnt want the 335i and wanted to buy the car with cash and wanted to start talking about pricing for the m3. we then sat down and started to negotiate. i asked him about dinan stuff for the car and when it was all coming out, he then went on about how it makes no sense to mod cars, he said it was childish. i told him i like the extra performance and he told me that people who mod their cars always like to race, he thinks racing is again childish and quote on quote "even when i drive my ferrari, i dont race people". by then my friend and i were pretty pissed off so we asked him if he drove a ferrari, why the hell is he working as a damn car salesman. he had no response. i told him he was rude and just lost a himself a customer. i got up out of the chair and told him "thanks for your f*cking help, i will buy my car from someone else". he watched my friend and i get into my friend's modded m5 and we left,he looked pretty annoyed looking out the window and all we did was just laugh at him as we drove by. i seriously dont know what is with some people, he was the one who asked me what car i was interested in, whether or not i can afford it or not is my business and he should not judge, all potential customers should be welcome, not made to feel like shit because they are interested. i went to another dealership and they were totally cool, as should always be but i decided not to go for the m3, c63 amg is what im leaning towards right now and i too always dress casual, we shouldnt have to dress up to get them to do their job, thats not right.

I know exactly what you mean. I always treat my clients and potential clients with courtesy and respect (and bite my tongue at times as well).

I just don't understand rude salesmen and rude businesses.

When I went to look at the 335, the attention I received was bordering on stalking . The saleswoman, went as far as to take me into the workshop so I could have a look at the different wheels in person (since they only had 2 different styles on the showroom floor). She actually paid attention to all my questions. And finally she never once brought up payments until I finally said, ok I am ready for the car. Then we negotiated. She outright told me the best she could do and what she could throw in for free. I didn't even care if that was the best price. She took care of me and for that I didn't mind if I paid a little bit extra.

On a separate note. I ended up at the Maserati dealer again today. The colleague of mine who had bought one asked me to pick him up (as he had just dropped it off for a service). Well, the idiot salesman was there with a few other employees. The colleague asks me whether the missus had checked out the GT. As loudly as I could, I point at the salesman and say "We came in, but that ass over there didn't think we could afford it so we went to BMW instead." Ah, the expressions on their faces were priceless. SOOOO Made my day.

I had a similar experience when i went to look at the z4m...the jackass kept telling me "oh you do know this is an ///m, right" im like uh yeah douche, it only has the fucking badge"

" oh can you afford it, do you know the payments? how old are you? what do you drive now?" i was wtf im outta here

then my gf is like...you know you shouldnt judge your customer cuz you never know who they are and what they have. plus you dont even know how to sell cars.

Hm... I've had a similar experience with Mitsubishi... When I asked for a test drive of the IX, the guy told me that "Everyone knows it goes... you don't need a test drive"... but he seemed nice, and then said "If you want, we'll have the X on show next week, so you can come and check that out"...

I've been to two Subaru dealerships... one, where were really nice at the start, even offering me a free sticker "WRC" themed package if I bought the STI... but when they saw I wasn't going to immediately buy it, they sort of got all harsh... at another dealership, they said I could order a test drive np whenever I wanted...

The BMW dealership (AuTec) here was really good... we went to check out the 3 coupe, saw the car, got instant attention from the salesman, and within 2 or 3 minutes I was offered a test drive (without even asking for it)...

The funny thing is that I know a couple of people who feel the same way about BMW dealerships. But regardless, your cousin should have walked out the minute he felt discrimated. Buying a car a is difficult enough the last thing you need is cocky motherfucker telling you you aren't good enough.
