I thought german were know for their cars...
This is a water bridge over the elbe river in berlin. It costs 500 million euros and is 918 meters long and six years to built. This river is useless to a bmw. Why not built a regular concrete bridge?

Im not an engineer but if the two rivers join the water they have divided the two with the bridge and now the upper river boat traffic doesnt have to stop. BMW can make engines for boats ???

The water bridge is used to connect two canals. This allows cargo ships to travel from one canal to the other when both canals normally run parallel to each other. This, in effect, dramatically cuts back on the amount of fuel used in transportation in addition to saving time.
The engineering behind this bridge is quite impressive. EDIT: In order to lift water (and ships/cargo) they use pumps/lifts/'locks'.

That's interesting. No need for drawbridges. Just let the ships go on the bridge. Heh.
