Your arguments are ridiculous, and go against evidence to the contrary.
The point is that all elements of an agreement don’t need to be known before the fact. Changing a key fob battery can be considered part of the service, which you consented to. The example is only for fun.

Again, your example applied to your logic would mean you would only have relations with a woman for a predetermined amount of time, which I think is known all over the world as prostitution, and we all know that there are other forms of consent that are much more pleasant to both parties, and not time limited
You are hilarious, exhausting, and a criminal all in one. You basically said it's okay to take $49 or less from someone without their consent and that is completely okay. But God forbid it's $50 more, that's when your ethics kick in. I don't know, maybe you're just an internet troll.

I would have done the same. Except I wouldn’t have been nice anymore after the sigh.

In my state shops are required to request consent for all additional charges before they perform them and you can request your old parts (as you own them after all).

For me, I would swap dealers since I have 4 very close to me. I am new to the BMW brand and am used to MB in my area which was great overall. But I would swap simply because I would feel they would be trying to find ways to try and rip me off in less obvious areas. Trust is very important and they would have lost that for me.

I don’t get the “you would look cheap” argument. It isn’t about the dollar value but about trust and respect. It is disrespectful to spend my money for me without so much as giving me the courtesy of deciding if I want to spend it.

Would’ve taken a few minutes for a call, text, or email to ask. Otherwise, comp it.

Exactly; if it's too small to justify calling for consent, do it FOC.

So now you’re calling me a criminal? Well, I’m flattered.

For what it's worth I just had my oil changed under warranty and they replaced the fob battery for free. I actually didn't even know they did it until I got the invoice via e-mail after getting home.

edit - it actually says WARRANTY next to the battery on the slip.

Scums, $8 for a battery that's probably $3 at most. lol $5 labor? Takes 15 seconds to swap it in and it was done without consent.

Guys after much thought I’ve decided to open a battery-in-key-fob replacement shop and I’ll be charging you only $6.99. Who wants to be my first customer?

As stated by LogicalApex above...

Not sure your warranty situation, but the battery is covered under the BMW new car warranty. And as stated if the dealership performs any maintenance that you did not consent to, you cannot be held liable for those expenses. The dealership should have called you to get your consent to perform the maintenance/replacement of the part prior to performing the maintenance/replacement. It is not about the price, it is about the trust! You definitely did the right thing.

I like the way you dealt with this! You put your foot down and basically said nobody told you to do that! Good job! Most people need to learn how to put their foot down and not let others take advantage of them. Especially females and cars
