I say make it reality and require special training for those people driving on those lanes. Otherwise you will have grannies driving their Prius on those lanes and not knowing to keep right.

Stay to the right except to pass, exit and entrance to it ONLY from the right. Absolutely NO left turns. Oh, and minimum speeds must be followed as well. Never slow down prior the deceleration lane and acceleration lanes must be used fully.
Especially those Toyota drivers. Every week I see someone driving 45-50 on a 65, or coming out from a exit with 35mph. And 90% of the time it's a Toyota.

Priuses, Camrys and minivans - the bane of my existence. These are A to B car owners. They don't like driving, the don't care about cars, they just want an appliance that gets them from A to B. That's fine until that get's coupled with total cluelessness about lanes and a general lack of attentiveness.

100% agree with this. In the densely populated cities all you see is the left lane backed up. Once you get out into the country the left lane is always empty and actually used to pass.

I did a road trip from Ohio to LA. Up until Colorado people were generally good about this rule. Sometimes there'd be dawdlers on the left lane, but follow them close for a little while, flash the beams, then they get with the program.

I didn't know there was a speed limit on Interstate 5 through the central valley. Most other drivers don't seem to think there's one, either.

The original article in the post listed a few flyover states that were considering raising the speed limit to 80 mph... not "Autobahn type highways with no speed limits for at least portions of the highway."

The article about SB319 was added about two weeks after my remarks. I am an officer of an organization that sponsors and endorses legislation related to California criminal law issues, and personally wrote laws that were recently enacted. I don't know whether our committee will vote to endorse or "no dog (in this fight -- refrain from endorsing or opposing)" SB319, but I personally don't believe it will make it out of the Senate public safety committee, much less to a floor vote in the State Senate.

I generally agree on this but the cops do hang out and pull over speeders. So it's relatively unlimited - unless you get caught. I think I've gone the fastest I've ever driven on a US road there...

That said, I was cursing the 250kph speed limiter on my car when I was on the German autobahn. Families in their wagons were passing me at faster speeds.

We already had a state with no speed limit, Montana used to be "reasonable and prudent" during the daytime.

But no longer, see https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...speed-feature/ and why the state was forced to set a speed limit.
