Love it! Our neighbor in Scottsdale (1967) had a creamy white Kadett that he'd occasional use to shuttle us around, as long as we didn't touch **anything** while riding in it. That Opel was always immaculate, probably owing to the hyper-fussy owner's 'Army Colonel' OCD madness. He always accelerated and decelerated at the same regimented pace, regardless of circumstances, and shifted with the slow and delicate precision of a neurosurgeon. The Kadett was sort of a clever packaging tour de force, and felt well-assembled and humble. Too bad it (and Opel, generally) didn't gain the appreciation here that it deserved.

Nice: We had those Kadetts and Mantas and like 1000 of them in my hometown when I was a kid('70s)
Also the GT was not uncommon. It was always a thing between Volkswagen(Beetle/Golf/Scirocco) and Opel where I'm from. My fav Opel of all time, Manta 400. And one of my fav rallydrivers ever. @2:13.....Legendary.... Cheers Robin

Good video...thanks RABAUKE.
There's always a good showing of Opels at Carlisle's import show (held each May), and it's always fun looking at the Kadetts, Rallyes, GT's, and Manta's. In particular, this '68 Kadett station wagon shows most years and it's literally as it left the showroom...plus it has a rare twin single throat carburetor performance option. Take a look. |
