The GT has 300hp, now I know mustangs have that bad reputation ( I have never owned one) but seriously do you think there might be a race there?

335 walks it. My gf has an 07 GT, i drive both cars pretty much daily. The BMW is much faster. At least it feels much faster.

Wow, I would think straight-line acceleration would be pretty close. C&D has the GT doing 5.1 secs 0-60 and 13.8 - 1/4 mile. Very close to C&D's 335i numbers considering C&D suggested BMW gave them a hot car for their test.

I raced against my friend's 2007 Roush Mustang in a straight line and we held together all the way from 0-100. I have the Steptronic and his was manual. If he was a professional driver, Im sure he would have won.

if an is350 can beat a mustang GT, 335i shouldn't have any problems..

I gotta belive a stock 335 will walk an '07 Mustang GT w/ equal drivers.

I know FOR A FACT that a 335 w/ SSTT DESTROYS a Mustang GT. Ask me how I know.

Stock versus stock in a straight line the Mustang may stay close. If the 335 is modified it will walk it easily and if you try to turn or break the Mustang will either explode or leave the pavement.

A stock 07 Mustang GT with the optional 18" 255 witdth tires will pull about .88-.90 g's on the skidpad. I would have to imagine that is very close to a 335xi or even 335i. I have driven both a few times and they feel extremely close to one another in all aspects of performance except maybe perceived braking ability. The ability to stuff 285s on the front and 315s on the rear gives the Mustang a huge advantage over the 335i. As far as fit and finish are concerned, there is no comparison, but the ride quality of both are pretty similar. Just my .02. Nate

ride quality is similar? I don't know about that. there is no quality feel in a mustang.

as for the wider tires being able to keep up with a 335i on the track might be an overstatement. the suspensions on the 3 series is far superior than that found on a mustang...

For reference, here's the data from http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html (first numbers are 0-60, second numbers are 1/4 mile):

2005 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L V8 5.1 13.5 (MT Jan '05)
2005 Ford Mustang GT Convertible 5.2 13.8 (MT Apr '05)
2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 5.0 13.6 (MT Online)
2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible 4.5 12.9 (R&T Jan '06)
2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT-H 5.3 13.9 (C&D Nov '06)

Now here's the numbers on the 335i:

2007 BMW 335i 4.9 13.6 (C&D Nov '06)
2007 BMW 335i 4.8 13.3 (Edmunds.com)
2007 BMW 335i 4.9 13.4 (Auto Week)

So based on those numbers, it would be pretty close, with the edge to the 335i assuming equal drivers (GT500 not including). Add an SSTT or an ECU tune, and it's no contest (with our without equal drivers).

I personally think Ford did a damn fine job with this current generation's Mustang. They did an excellent job in squeezing more HP out of that "old" 4.6L V8. For the price, the performance numbers are impressive.

There is a huge aftermarket for Mustangs that can end up costing a lot of money with a lot of parts and even an ECU tune, but they'll still only gain about 30-40 HP max. You can spend just a small fraction of that price in mods for a 335 and still have a lot more usable power. The other key is "usable" power that actually gets to the wheels. Our 335's are pretty efficient with how the power gets to the wheels.
